The New Orleans’ Saints pursuit of Jeremy Shockey is dead. At least, “for the most part.” That’s the status, according to Saints GM Mickey Loomis, who appeared on Sirius NFL Radio’s The Sirius Blitz on Wednesday afternoon with Adam Schein and Solomon Wilcots. Schein asked him “How hot and heavy did the talks get? Was it ever close? And are you still talking to the New York Giants about getting him?” Here’s what Loomis said: “It’s no secret we had some discussions with them and ultimately we just couldn’t come to a conclusion on the right compensation. And, look, I understand that. He’s a very good player and the Giants don’t want to just give him away unless they feel like they are getting really good value. But I think that’s … for the most part that’s dead. I don’t anticipate that being rekindled.” Of course, a cynic would say that if it’s dead “for the most part,” then there’s at least a little part of it that’s alive. And that would explain why Jerry Reese, Tom Coughlin and Kevin Gilbride would only commit to Shockey being the Giants’ starting tight end “right now.” But while Loomis does appear to be keeping the door ajar, it still would take a first-round pick (or S Roman Harper) to get the deal done. He wasn’t willing to do that before, and it sure doesn’t sound like he’s willing to do it now. ... Source: www.emediawire.com --- 1 day ago

Event 6 was another No-Limit Hold'em affair, this time with a $300+$40 buy-in. (It's worth noting events at WSOPC New Orleans are not finishing in numerical order because some are two-day events while others are just one). A total of 393 players came out with the intention of taking it to the limit in Event 6 but no one did it better than David Avera. The 33-year-old Avera, who works as a supervisor for a cable television contractor, dominated the later stages of play and was never in serious danger of being eliminated. Incredibly Avera had never entered a poker tournament of any kind prior to the event and his only poker experience came from home games. After a rather conservative final table, Avera busted Lou Crispino and Barry Cusimano in successive hands and never looked back. Heads-up play began with Avera holding a 2-1 chip lead over opponent Ben Mintz and Mintz was never able to mount a serious comeback. In the final hand Mintz hit a ten on the flop for top pair but Avera was holding pocket aces. Avera hit another ace on the turn and won the tournament with a monster set of aces. Avera received $35,453 for his efforts and a gold WSOPC ring. Event 9 was a $500+$50 buy-in Limit Hold'em tournament and, as is usually the case, there were considerably fewer players than in the No-Limit tournaments. A modest 56 players came out to try and outlast each other in the methodical game that is Limit poker. After just seve ... Source: blogs.livedaily.com --- 1 hour ago

I made a comment at the Board meeting during the discussion of the RUSA Blog that may require some further discussion. I mentioned that we might be migrating to a different blog application. After discussion with the Web Developer for ALA, I might be wrong about that. I haven't had adequate time to get an impression of the granularity of the permissions component of b2evoluton, the software ALA is using, but it didn't look as sophisticated as I've seen in other applications. We are not going to use this application for handling the online companion to RUSQ, so if the members who are working with the present RUSA blog also have experience using WordPress, let me know which application you prefer and we may "migrate" before we get too much content posted to the present platform. It may be that this application is sufficient; that also is great and does have the advantage of being grouped with other ALA blogs and feeds. Sorry about any confusion!
