Filed under: Laptops The Apple rumor mill has really cooked up a doozy this time. According to 9to5mac -- a site with a fairly good track record -- Apple's next big thing isn't just a laptop or an iPod... it's an entirely New manufacturing process. If you believe the site's sources, an as-yet-unannounced event on October 14th will herald in a New iteration of the Macbook dubbed the "Brick," but the big news won't actually be about the laptop. Apparently, Apple has created a brand-New process to sculpt casings for products out of aircraft-grade aluminum, using a system that carves the pieces out of a single block of metal using "3D lasers" and water-jet cutting. The New technique will supposedly allow for seamless components which require no bending or folding, won't use screws to join together, are ultra-light but also "super strong," and will enable the company to rapidly prototype and produce New designs. Of course, not a single word of this is confirmed or even acknowledged by Apple, though we have been hearing whispers of the "Brick" for a few weeks now. Ultimately, everyone should approach this news with extreme skepticism, but if these rumors get magically transmuted into reality, there's no telling what kind of New gear Apple might have up its sleeve. More details are emerging on the New MacBooks, due to be announced on Tuesday. Inquisitr received word that price lists provided to some Apple retailers in the United States include an SKU for an $800 notebook computer – a first for the Cupertino company. Apple retail stores have been given price sheets that list 12 price points for the New range, with prices between $800-$3100. Current lines only have 8 price points, 3 Macbooks starting at $1099, 3 Macbook Pros and 2 Macbook Airs. Engadget posted the above spy shot which appears to be a close-up shot (albeit a blurry one) of the left side of a Macbook or Macbook Pro shell. In it a seam is visible separating... ...

Well... What do you think the specifications for the upcoming Macbook Pro will be? On an important side note: I am the biggest Apple fan who doesn`t own a MAC. I`ve been waiting almost 2 years to buy a Mac for myself and I finally will be able to on Tuesday with the New Macbook Pro. My current computer is an HP Pavilion dv1000. It`s 3 years, 2 months old, it has a 1.7GHz processor, 990MB of memory, 90GB of hard drive, and it`s battery life is 16 minutes. I can`t tell you how happy I am. I just wanted to tell you. That`s all. ...

The mysterious “brick” rumor circulating about the expected New Macbook models has just taken another turn, with 9 to 5 Mac claiming that it refers to a New method of crafting laptop casings out of solid bricks of aluminum. According to their source, the New process uses a laser-guided water jet capable of forming a seamless Macbook casing out of a solid block of metal, requiring no screws or bends (which can weaken the material) and reducing overall weight. A seamless Macbook case is something that has been rumored for some time now, and water-carving would certainly be a way of achieving that. The source suggests that Apple are constructing their own plant to produce the hardware, rather than outsourcing it to one of the usual manufacturers, which would give them more flexibility to tweak the design, greater control over the process and the cost, and even more ability to keep New devices secret until the official launch. 9 to 5 Mac suggest that the New manufacturing process is what Apple’s Peter Oppenheimer meant when he said the company was working on something “Apple’s competitors won’t be able to match” at the most recent financial results call. Currently we expect an announcement at an Apple Macbook event on October 14th, although the company is still tight-lipped about whether such a launch is planned.
