History Today magazine reports that the British Airways plane ticket which took Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain to Munich on September 29, 1938, on his mission to talk peace with Hitler has been sold for £9,000. The sale estimate was £5,000-7,000, and the buyer has not yet been identified although it is expected that the ticket will be donated to a museum. The ticket was found among papers belonging to the late George Denny, one of the founders of British Airways, who is assumed to have kept it as a souvenir. Not since Britain’s Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain came back from a meeting with Adolf Hitler to declare peace was at hand (when in actuality World War II was about to begin and kill millions upon millions of people) have we seen such blind incompetence on display. After missing or ignoring a warning by the terrorist’s own father that his son was in the throws of Islamo Fascist jihad, and after barely adverting the massacre of a couple hundred innocent Americans by the sheer luck that the bomber failed to detonate his device correctly, Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano had this gem of stupidity to offer : Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Sunday that the thwarting of the attempt to blow up an Amsterdam-Detroit airline flight Christmas Day demonstrated that “ the system worked .” President Obama needs to fire this idiot – now! The system did NOT work. A man who has been on the terrorist watch list for 2 YEARS was able to book a flight to America. A man whose own father contacted American authorities 6 months ago because he feared his son was about to do something horrible, was able to smuggle a very deadly and powerful binary explosive onto a crowded commercial airline on Christmas day. Barack Obama using West point as his stage to attempt to look credible, (never happen), will announce his Afghanistan decision. An increase of 30-35 thousand troops whose deployment will be gradual over the next year. So this is not a surge but a slow and agonizing deployment which is designed more to prepare for an exit than a victory. Many who read this do not remember Vietnam and the problems that took place with that war. I am not going to attempt to rehash Vietnam nor try and make comparisons with Obama's Afghanistan move except for this one observation which I believe applies to the current situation. Lyndon Johnson chose to deploy troops into Vietnam at a slow pace rather than an overwhelming force designed to defeat the enemy and finish the job in victory. Obama seems to be taking a similar path in Afghanistan concerned more with the Afghan governments problems rather than achieving total victory as quickly as possible with an overwhelming force. If he in like manner follows the Johnson example in prosecuting the war as he is in slow deployment then his next step will be to micromanage rather than allow commanders in theatre do what is necessary to win. Quickly making Afghanistan into a political war. His reasoning can be nothing more than to appease the 20% of his party who are far left anti-war moonbats who will not accept ANY United States involvement militarily for any situation. Time and again, Uzbekistan holds a mirror up to the West. Consider the recent seismic shift in the European Union (EU)’s stance toward the country’s ruler, Islam Karimov, and his regime. In response to the Andijan Massacre of 13 May 2005, the EU Council smacked the Uzbek government with economic, military, and diplomatic sanctions. At the time, Human Rights Watch (HRW) hailed it as a “landmark decision” and “much-needed concrete meaning to [the EU's] human rights policy.” However, during the intervening years the Council maintained low-level contacts with Uzbekistan’s rulers. The sanctions were gradually eased until finally, this past October, the decision was made to lift them altogether. The Council has stated that, although still concerned about human rights in the country, they are satisfied that “the dialogue and cooperation between the EU and Uzbekistan have acquired a new scope and quality,” including several commitments from the Uzbek government.
