Neversoft, Harmonix, we get it. You guys make competing music games. There's beef. But is there really any need to get so damn...petty? Here's Guitar Hero director Brian Bright, on Harmonix's decision to include cymbals on their Rock Band 2 drum kit: I don't know how far ahead they planned that - we obviously revealed [our drum kit] much earlier than they did...I've a feeling there was a: 'Oh s***! There's cymbals! How can we put cymbals on our kit?' That would be the easiest way without having to rewire everything and re-engineer the entire circuit board. Brian. Harmonix invented Guitar Hero. They then invented Rock Band, which GH World Tour is now , for want of a better word, copying. Might be for the best if you keep the "innovation" smack talk to a minimum. It was never going to be pretty - and with Guitar Hero World Tour set to go head to head with Rock Band 2 this autumn, the rock 'n' roll royal rumble has begun in earnest. Speaking to Eurogamer last week at Game Convention 2008, Guitar Hero director Brian Bright scorned Harmonix' attempts to match the feature set of the World Tour drum kit, while ostensibly clearing up the mystery surrounding the rumoured new peripherals for Neversoft's title. "I don't know how far ahead they planned that - we obviously revealed [our drum kit] much earlier than they did," said Bright, referencing Harmonix' plan to release separate clip-on cymbals for Rock Band set-ups. "I've a feeling there was a: 'Oh s***! There's cymbals! How can we put cymbals on our kit?' That would be the easiest way without having to rewire everything and re-engineer the entire circuit board." ...

Filed under: Peripherals , Rhythm Remember when Neversoft's Brian Bright allegedly told G4 that a new peripheral was coming to Guitar Hero World Tour , and G4 speculated it would, in fact, be a keyboard? We had a chance to talk to the very same Brian Bright who told us that "a keyboard controller deserves to be introduced with its own game. This is something we're thinking about." B-b-b-but what about all the keyboard section in the song creator? Bright says, "there are reasons why we haven't included a keyboard controller." He elaborates that not all of the songs have keyboard parts so, "adding a keyboard controller would either have limited our choices, or the players." ... so Keyboard Hero: Billy Joel confirmed? Check out the full interview for more on World Tour's song creation system.   Read  |  Permalink  |  Email this  |  Linking Blogs  |  Comments ...

Alright, all you people that bet on keyboard for the mystery peripheral coming to Guitar Hero World Tour's Studio mode -- it's time to pay up, as Neversoft's Brian Bright has said that that accessory won't be added to the World Tour instrument lineup. "No, there are reasons why we haven't included a keyboard controller. Not all of our songs have keyboard parts, so we didn't want someone to come into a game, pick up the keyboard controller, and then have nothing to do in any of the songs that are selected. We wanted a big mix of music in World Tour and adding a keyboard controller would either have limited our choices, or the players'. A keyboard controller deserves to be introduced with its own game. This is something we're thinking about." -- Guitar Hero World Tour project director Brian Bright to Joystiq Mystery peripheral of of World Tour's Studio mode aside, are you guys getting giddy over the thought of playing Keyboard Hero in the future as Bright deviously hinted at? ...

Filed under: Sony PlayStation 2 , Sony PlayStation 3 , Nintendo Wii , Microsoft Xbox 360 , Rhythm We knew that as we came closer to the games' respective release dates, the feud between Harmonix/EA's Rock Band 2 and Neversoft/Activision's Guitar Hero: World Tour would reach critical mass. In the quarrel's latest smack talk salvo, Guitar Hero director Brian Bright discussed rival Harmonix's cymbal attachments for their sequel's drum kit peripheral with Eurogamer, providing some highly quotable zingers -- and buddy, we don't mean snack cakes . Bright condemns Rock Band 2 's cymbals for being "dual-mapped" , meaning they'll share the functions of one of the pads of the standard kit, making the attachments somewhat unneccessary. He also dismisses them for being a panicked copycat reaction to World Tour 's cymbal-equipped kit -- based on the familiar gameplay we've seen from the latest installment in the Guitar Hero franchise, we assume Neversoft would be the unparalleled experts on matters duplicative . Guitar Hero World Tour (PS2, PS3, 360, Wii) will arrive in Australia on November 12, publisher Activision has announced. Release dates for other regions have yet to be confirmed, but the game is expected to arrive elsewhere in close proximity to that date. Along with the release date, GameSpot reports that four additional songs were unveiled, which join the known tracklist : The Living End - "Prisoner of Society" Los Lobos - "La Bamba" Bullet for My Valentine - "Scream Aim Fire" Lacuna Coil - "Our Truth" Adding drums and vocals to the typically guitar-only series, Guitar Hero World Tour is being developed by Neversoft on the PS3 and Xbox 360, with Vicarious Visions on the Wii edition and Budcat on the PS2 release. ...

We've seen some of the other blogs talking about Neversoft's decision to not include saving failed out band members in Guitar Hero: World Tour . We got a chance to play Guitar Hero: World Tour at PAX and we experienced band members failing out several times. We loved the game, don't get us wrong, but we think this is a mistake. When playing Rock Band at parties, there are often times when people fail out. Most of the time, they are saved and the song continues, but sometimes they fail the whole band out. This is a real party killer. Rock Band 2 includes a "no fail" mode, which should be great for social gatherings. Guitar Hero: World Tour will include no such feature. Several times at PAX, we had our bass or drum player fail us out without any chance to bring him back. What Guitar Hero: World Tour does do, however, is allow players to switch their difficulty level without having to jump back to the song selection screen. ...
