The LG BD300 Network Blu-ray Player will be released in the fall. (Credit: LG) When it's released in the fall, the LG BD300 will be the first Blu-ray Player that will also have access to Netflix's online Watch Now library of streaming movies. But thanks to LG's sneak preview of the product (at its Manhattan press event last night), we have a pretty good idea of what we'll be getting when it hits stores in a few months. ... ...

We seem to be having a slew of Netflix players as of late, between the Roku and the Xbox 360. The latest to the list is the LG BD300. Consumer Reports wrote up a brief post on it, as well as many other blogs, but the skinny is that it will cost something less than [...] ...

Viewers seeking easy access to prerecorded movies and TV shows will soon have a new option: LG says its next high-def DVD Player, the BD300 Network Blu-ray Player, can stream content from the Netflix website directly to their TVs. The BD300, which will be available this fall, requires a broadband connection to access the Netflix website. Using the Player's remote control, users can browse movies and TV shows, and access ratings and a synopsis of a program. Desired selections are then added to a personalized queue, which is displayed on the TV screen. According to LG, once a movie is selected from the queue, it will start playing within 30 seconds, and viewers will be able to fast-forward and rewind the program as they do on a DVR. There are several questions that hopefully will be answered at a press conference this evening. For example, the companies didn't say if the programs would be available as high-def video streams, and if so, what the resolution would be. Based on other deals, we presume it will be sent as standard-definition video. And so far, there's no word on the expected price for the Player. And while the companies said there would be "no additional charge" for content streamed from Netflix, they didn't say what level of membership, if any, would be required to access the Netflix library. The BD300, a Profile 2.0 Player with Blu-ray’s BonusView (picture-in-picture) and BD Live (Internet access) features, is the second j ...

Those who only want the latest technology to touch their entertainment systems may want to check this out: LG Electronics and Netflix had recently collaborated to create the first Blu-ray Disc Player, the LG BD300, that can stream movies as well as episodes from Netflix. How does the service work? First, Netflix members will need to log into the Netflix webpage, where users pick and choose from among 12,000 movie and TV episodes available through the online service. The chosen features will be then added to the Instant Queue displayed through the LG BD300, and will be streamed into the Player. There is no additional cost for the luxury of having movies and TV shows streamed directly into the Blu-ray Player, but of course, one has to become a member of Netflix in order to take advantage of the service. Netflix is also known for forming a partnership with Microsoft to provide a similar service through the Xbox 360. Seth Gilbert submits: In January, Netflix (NFLX) announced the first of several ambitious partnerships to integrate the software behind their “Watch Now” streaming video service into TV-connected consumer electronics. The deal, they revealed just prior to the Consumer Electronics show, was with LG (LPL) for a set-top box.  At the time, the battle for next-gen DVD standards was still ongoing so it was unclear if “set top box” meant we might see a DVD Player (HD DVD or Blu-ray) or some other device. Little clarifying information was provided. Today, long after the standards war ended , the mail-order DVD pioneer and the South Korean electronics giant filled in the blanks with detail. Coming this fall, LG will begin selling a Blu-ray DVD Player that is jointly capable of streaming Netflix movies via the Internet and playing traditional or Blu-ray discs. Complete Story » ...

LG have taken the wraps off of their upcoming Blu-ray Player, which also includes Netflix instant streaming. Aside from watching high-definition Blu-ray discs, users can also browse Netflix’s catalogue of over 12,000 titles for instant viewing together with playing back media and images stored on a home network (via the ethernet connection) or on an attached flash drive (thanks to the front-panel USB port). The BD300 is also capable of upscaling standard-definition DVDs to 1080p. Profile 2.0 is supported, which means compatibiliy with BD Live, Bonus View picture-in-picture and other interactive functionality (some of which may take advantage of the BD300’s internet connection). LG are keeping quiet on full cnnectivity, though it’s known that the BD300 has “Dolby TrueHD support”. According to Crave , who spent some hands-on time with the BD300 last night, the system works pretty much identically to that offered by Roku’s Netflix adapter . They also criticised its ethernet-only connectivity, where the Roku offering has WiFi. LG expect the BD300 to launch this Fall, priced at “under $500″. It is rather surprising to see that nobody has covered this piece of news yet, but LG’s latest Blu-ray Player, the BD300 is able to support Netflix streaming through the TV, where customers will be able to access the Netflix instant Queue as it appears on the TV. Of course, this opens up a whole new world of possibilities where entertainment is concerned, but how many of the movies on Netflix are recent enough to keep people interested? Granted, there are over 12,000 movies available in its back catalogue, but we don’t really need to watch the entire Star Wars trilogy (the original one before George Lucas put money before ideas) one more time just to experience the “wonder” of movie streaming, right? Anyways, I digress. More on the LG BD300 and the Netflix service right after the jump. Available this fall, the LG BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player will play high definition Blu-ray discs, up-convert standard DVDs to 1080p and allow Netflix subscribers to instantly stream more than 12,000 choices of movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the TV for no additional charge. Instantly streaming content from Netflix to the TV via the LG BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player will rely on a wired broadband connection and Queue-based user interface. Netflix members will use the Netflix Web site to add movies and TV episodes to their individual instant Queues. Those choices will automatically be displayed on members’ TVs and available to watch ins ...
