About 84 percent of the estimated resources are expected to occur offshore.  "Before we can make decisions about our future use of oil and Gas and related decisions about protecting endangered species, native communities and the health of our planet, we need to know what's out there," said USGS Director Mark Myers. "With this assessment, we're providing the same information to everyone in the world so that the global community can make those difficult decisions."    Of the estimated totals, more than ...

Area residents can expect higher Natural Gas prices this winter and Michigan Gas Utilities Corporation (MGU) wants to give them fair warning. “It’s not good news but we need to get it out,” said P.J. Livernois, External Affairs Manager at MGU. “That’s why we’re saying it now.” Livernois said Gas prices began increasing at the close of the heating season in April when they begin decreasing normally.  On average, last year Gas prices were 70 cents per 100 cubic feet but currently are $1 per 100 cubic feet. “They are going in the opposite direction on us,” he said. Livernois would not give an estimate on how much more customers would be paying this winter because it involves too many variables.  However, he did say that if customers have never been on the budget plan, they may want to consider doing so this year. “The reason I say that is that if you’re not on the budget plan and we have a cold month, a customer could have a $250 to $300 Gas bill, ...
