The car's driver tried to extinguish the blaze when it broke out Friday afternoon, but the strong wind in the rugged hills near the wine country town of St. Helena caused the fire to spread quickly and prompting about 100 people to evacuate their homes, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. More than 1,500 firefighters were called in to work the blaze and with the help of cooler temperatures and higher humidity had it about 80 percent contained by Saturday night, Cal Fire said.
