Publisher Namco/Bandai seems to be rescuing the ailing Hellgate: London after a number of layoffs at developer Flagship and the shuttering of the game's subscription service. Namco/Bandai senior business development director Zack Karlsson appeared in the Hellgate: London forums recently, urging players not to worry for the future of their game. "I know everyone is looking for an announcement, and we'd love to make one -- but right now, many things are in flux and we don't have all the information yet," Karlsson wrote. "In the short term, please do not worry. The game is up, the servers are not going away in the short term and any major changes to status will be communicated in advance." There is no word on whether Namco/Bandai's aid will have any effect on the status of Flagship's other MMO, the recently shelved Mythos . Image courtesy Flagship Announcementing... We all know that Flagship Studios is in some pretty deep doo-doo, but at least Hellgate: London will live on. It seems that Namco Bandai has picked up the game. While no official announcement has been given regarding this, Zack "Ozuri" Karlsson, the Sr. Directory of Business Development for Namco Bandai Games America has posted on the official Hellgate: London forums saying that they will have "a real announcement shortly" and that "the servers are not going away in the short term and any major changes to status will be communicated in advance." As expected, the official Namco Bandai website has already put up a Hellgate: London page which you might want to check out by following the source link below. SoulCalibur IV is in so much demand these days, and we have the numbers to prove it. Just last week, a little after the release, Namco Bandai 's cross-platformer ( Xbox 360 , PlayStation 3 ) topped the worldwide software charts with 382, 716 copies sold, thereby putting their sales squarely over two million. Well, it seems like Namco Bandai sees the opportunity, and they fully intend to milk the cow while it's still hot. More new content has arrived on the Xbox Live Marketplace (yay!), but be warned: it doesn't come cheap (boo!) That's right. In a rather obvious attempt of fleecing the fans, the new content will cost you 200 MS Points. Is it worth the buck, you ask? Well... it does measure to 108KB in size, and so therefore means that it's most probably already included in the disk. In fact, it's supposedly only some of the Limited Edition Content. Specifically, what the pack includes would be items for the custom character creation mode. This is for you, obviously, to create your own characters, from maids to other whatnots. How much can your 200 MS Points give you? Only five female items, if you're looking for a more precise canvass. Are you gonna bite the bait? Filed under: Business It's time for Namco Bandai to bring out the katamari and roll up some loose change, as profits dipped 63% from the same quarter last year. GI.biz reports the company went from making $26 million in profit during Q108 to making only $9.2 million in Q109. The video game section of the company was the only division to see growth at 3.8% this quarter. Much of Namco's sales this period came from Europe and Asia, with Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 selling 420,000 units in the former territory. Japan brought sales with Taiko Drum Master and Tales of Symphonia at 260,000 and 215,000 units, respectively. The company expects sales to pick up over the year, but has already forecast a 31% drop in profits for the full year. Hey, at least they're just making less profit and not sending cash into the ether like Midway . Read  |  Permalink  |  Email this  |  Comments ...

In an extremely classy move, Namco Bandai Games has included a pair of coupons in the Soulcalibur IV instruction manual, giving gamers a break on their mall shoe shopping and fried chicken fix. Yes, gamers, your sixty dollar purchase of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 fighting game will get you a cool $1 off any value combo at Church's Chicken and a $10 price break on bigger Journeys purchases. And, hey, it's a full color manual! Sadly, it looks like those who purchased the Special Edition of Soulcalibur IV will have to pay regular prices on their chicken and Vans.
