I checked into the Kiosk for a flight from CMH throw DTW to the west coast in the early evening this week, and was told by the kiosk that my flight from CMH-DTW was delayed. I went up to the agent and asked how this might impact my trip, and by how much the flight was delayed. She looked me up quickly, and told me I would undoubtedly miss my connecting flight and be stuck in DTW. Like lightning, within a minute, she had found a very reasonable alternate route on a non-Skyteam airline (isn't that unusual? maybe not...), which I didn't mind because it got me to my destination less than an hour after I was scheduled to land. This trip to CMH was my first experience with NW, and although NW planes seem a bit older and less comfy (I recognize that my sample size is small), I was blown away by the customer service and ability of the agent I dealt with here! She was awesome. Unfortunately, I didnt catch her name since I was in a rush to get my confirmed seat on the other carrier out of CMH. Kudos to that CMH Agent! ^ ...

I have found a business class award ticket for next summer. SEA-AMS-FCO on NWA with AMS-FCO on KLM. or IAH-CDG-FCO on all AF metal. Both flights are on A330 aircraft. I'm a DL Skymiles PM. I'm ticketed on NWA/KLM though PDX on the way back due to scheduling and award seat availability. Is there a big difference between AF and NWA business cabins? My primary concerns are 1) Seat comfort 2) IFE 3) Food, in that order. I've heard AF is very strict about carry-on allowances, and their staff isn't always the best. I'm pretty sure connecting through CDG is terrible, and I seem to have read AMS is easier. Thoughts? ...

Last week I flew MSP-LGA, and observed the following: - Two foreigners sitting behind me in the exit row, chatting away in some weird language. When the FA came around and did the usual "do you understand you are sitting in an exit row?" thing, they didn't make a peep. I have no idea if they spoke English, and neither did the FA. Understanding English is a requirement - shouldn't this be checked? - The passenger diagonally across the aisle from me was yapping away on his cell phone, even after the cabin door was closed. Two different FAs came by and asked him to turn it off, he nodded at them while continuing to talk, but of course didn't turn the phone off. Finally the third time he saw an FA come by, he actually concealed the phone and then started talking again after the FA had passed by, while concealing the phone on the window side of the seat. - The same passenger had his seat belt fastened, but loosened to the maximum extension. There was so much slack that the seat belt was of no use. This was easy to see and the FAs said nothing about it. - The same passenger had his seat reclined, and didn't put the seat back up during final descent and landing. Once again he disobeyed the instructions of the crew. I am sure someone is going to say that this isn't necessarily an NWA issue, that these kind of things go on on all of the airlines.
