  It's amazing how dust clouds, stellar winds, ultraviolet radiation and supernovas can all work together to form nebulae into beautiful shapes. Last time, we treated you to a glimpse of the Fox Fur nebula . This time, we present NGC 6188. As you can see from the picture above, the emission nebula is truly a sight to behold, despite the lack of fanciness in its name. The various hues of color that you see are emissions of sulfur, hydrogen and oxygen atoms. So how did NGC 6188 come to be? Massive young stars of an embedded stellar association gave the nebula the shape it currently has. Previous generations of stars went supernova , swept up the molecular gas and compressed it. The lights are there due to stellar winds and intense UV radiation. hi folks, it's been a while... I don't know how it is on your location guys, but here wheather has turned really nasty in the last year(s). meanwhile we hold at 1 decent night every 4-5 weeks...getting worse I am afraid... so this is the reason I decided to finish this project on NGC 4214. I intended to go real deep with both, lum and rgb. all I got within 1 monnth is 2 hours lum and 50 min each channel... not much and therefore quite tough to process. also there are not many images on the web...at least I did not find a lot. nevertheless it is a beautiful and fascinating galaxy I think! I love all those irregular ones. and to the bottom left I think we see a small 'traveller' that might get cought or might have been caught by gravity of 4214. perhaps one of the tidals R Jay has published together with his pro-friend is yet to be formed,...or it is just not visible in this image, since my lumin. data is so slim... )-: please find the image(s) and all data on my website: www.stargazer-observatory.com/4214.html thanks for looking guys! A neat edge on galaxy with a Quasar just below it. It's in Ursa major just over the Canes Venatici border. I'd have expected more field galaxies in this area than I picked up. Imaging in moon light does cut down their numbers but this is really a bigger loss than I expected. Second image shows the location of the QSO which has a red shift of about Z=1.2 which puts it way out there with a light travel distance of over 8 billion light years. Now if that field star in our galaxy wasn't right in the dust lane.... That red star below and right of the galaxy is the reddest star I've ever imaged. I couldn't find anything on it however.
