Congratulations to Bob Papa, who was officially named the new play-by-play voice of Thursday Night Football on the NFL Network earlier today. And congratulations to the NFL Network for an absolutely brilliant hire. Papa, of course, has been the radio play-by-play voice of the Giants since 1995 and is acknowledged by most people as one of the finest broadcasters in the business. He’s worked for the NFL Network before, calling NFL Europa games, and he’s worked for HBO (boxing), NBC (the Olympics) and, of course, hosts The Opening Drive on Sirius NFL radio. Don’t worry, though: Papa will still be calling Giants games on radio, but now he’ll also be contributing pregame and postgame reports for the NFL Network, and he’ll be a contributing writer to NFL.com. Thankfully his continued association with the Giants allows him to maintain his status as one of the leading members of the Giants’ Writer Cup golf team, which will be defending its title against the Jets’ media in late August. *** For those of you planning a trip to Albany this summer to see the Giants up close and personal, you can find the schedule of training camp practices here and here .
