Wyoming, ON, Wednesday Oct. 1, 2008:  Saturday’s running of the Dodge Dealers of Ontario Dodge Ram 250 at Kawartha Speedway was called after 174 of the scheduled 250 laps due to rain.  Whitlock and his No. 39 Dickies/NMT/PRCRFC Dodge Avenger team played the pit strategy card and lost as they were one of only a handful of teams who pitted early. The final event of the 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season took the green flag under cloudy skies with a light mist of rain falling.  Whitlock started from the tenth position and was able to run in the top ten even as high as sixth before the crew made the call to pit early on lap 103.  The strategy was to have them in position that when the remainder of the lead lap cars pitted later, they would all return to the track behind the No. 39 Dodge of Whitlock.  However the rain started to get heavier and after running over 20 caution laps the cars were brought down pit road under red flag conditions.  Much to the disappointment of the No. 39 Dickies team, NASCAR made the decision to call the race official after only 174 laps of the schedule 250 laps.  “This was definitely not the way we  wanted to finish the season,” stated Whitlock after the race.  “The car was decent and the guys made an adjustment when I came in for tires and fuel and we were running great.    Only two or three cars ahead of us had pitted yet, so when the other ten came in we would have been running in the top three.”   ...

Lap 150 - Don Thomson in 5th... Steckly near the back in 19th after losing a lap after bending steering system when he hit the wall after contact with John Gaunt. As of now, the championship appaears to be very close... Probably just 2 points separate 4 and 22 if they finished where they are now. The mist is very close to being 'rain'. Jason Hathaway leads Kennington, Beauchamp and Brad Graham. Anthony Simone parked the car so Jason White will be top rookie. ANTIGONISH, NS - September 21, 2008.  Don Thomson Jr. and the Home Hardware Chevrolet scored their first victory of the 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire series (NCATS) season at Sun Valley Speedway the furthest western track on the circuit.  After taking the checkered flag at Riverside Speedway near Antigonish, Nova Scotia during round twelve this past Saturday night the Home Hardware team are winners from coast to coast. As is the norm, the Home Hardware Chevrolet was among the quickest cars starting right from the first practice session.  It was teammate J.R. Fitzpatrick that would claim the pole position for the start and Thomson would line up third, directly behind his #84 teammate. From the drop of the green to begin the action it was the two teammates that would swap the lead back and forth for more than 100 laps.  “The Home Hardware car was good all day, good in practice, qualified third and we ran really good on long green runs and that’s exactly what we wanted for this race” said Thomson who would be back out front from lap 162-181.  A lot of drivers will talk about being out front as the place to be.  As the Home Hardware Chevrolet driver would find out however, trouble can lurk anywhere, even for the leader who has slower cars to deal with. “Some of the cars in front of me just checked up and I got collected, nothing I could do about it” he said. As the race wore on Thomson would have a bowed up hood to deal with on the Home H ...

Barrie, ON, Sunday September 7, 2008:  When the No. 39 Dickies/NMT/PCRFC Dodge Avenger came to a halt on its roof Saturday night at Barrie Speedway, everyone held their breaths for a few minutes until driver Dave Whitlock was seen emerging from his car. After a lap 237 restart and with the frontrunners battling for position, Whitlock who lined up third was attempting to make a pass on No. 77 Derek Lynch.  Lynch got tapped from behind by another competitor and got out of shape. Whitlock and Lynch's tires rubbed resulting in the No. 39 Dickies Dodge climbing over the hood of the No. 77 car.  The momentum then sent him airborne and into a double roll before landing on his roof.  A collective sigh of relief went up as Whitlock climbed from his wrecked car. Earlier in the day Whitlock put his No. 39 Dickies Avenger on the outside front row in qualifying after setting the second quickest time of the day.  "The car just worked really well," stated Whitlock after qualifying.  "We practiced here a couple of weeks ago so we were confident the car would work good." The Pizza Pizza 300, event number eleven in the thirteen race NASCAR Canadian Tire Series 2008 tour was the second appearance at Barrie Speedway this year.  Whitlock's earlier visit resulted in a blown motor and a disappointing DNF so they the team was looking to redeem themselves.  At the drop of the green everyone was quite racy and Whitlock got shuffled back a few positions.  Th ...

Driver Brad Graham and the Full Throttle Blue Demon/Logel’s Auto Parts/ Challenger Motor Freight Dodge team have been on a charge in the late stages of the 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series racing season.  With every increasing momentum the team scored yet another top-five finish to close out the final round of the season with a fourth place finish at the Dodge Dealers of Ontario Ram 250 at Kawartha Speedway. It was a tough start to the day for the Full Throttle Blue Demon/Logel’s Auto Parts/ Challenger Motor Freight team.  Lap times during practice were impressive but the story was different during qualifying.  “Our Goodyear tires have been great all year” said Brad Graham, “but for some reason we had a set that grew a little funny during time trails and we just didn’t get the performance we were expecting” he added. Graham would start the 250 lap feature event deep in the field at fifteenth spot.  The Full Throttle Blue Demon/Logel’s Auto Parts/ Challenger Motor Freight Dodge would not be there for long.  With track conditions noticeably different from qualifying that were much better suited to the cars set up Graham took off toward the front of the field.  “We just started picking off positions one at a time and next thing you know we’re inside the top-ten and heading for the front” he stated. Graham would continue the push forward with his smooth handling Full Throttle Blue Demon/Logel’s Auto Parts/ Challenger Motor Freight race ca ...

ANTIGONISH, NS - Don Thomson won the wild Atlantic Dodge Dealers 300 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race at Riverside Int'l Speedway on Saturday night. Thomson gained the lead with a few laps to go when Peter Gibbons was black flagged for spinning Andrew Ranger from the lead as they battled for top spot. With Ranger and Gbbons out of the mix, Thomson led his teamate JR Fitzpatrick across the line. MOPAR-sponsored Ron Beauchamp Jr. Was third. Points leader Scott Steckly did not finish as he endured more late-season engine trouble. The NCATS season finale is next weekend at Kawartha Speedway. Don Thomson likely has the best shot at keeping Steckly from winning the title. Inside Track Motorsport News // www.insidetracknews.com // 'Canada's Source for Motorsports' ...

A week ago DJ Kennington wasn’t sure how well the Castrol Dodge would be able to perform in the season finale of the 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, the Ontario Dodge Dealers Ram 250 at Kawartha Speedway.  Though both Kennington and the Castrol Dodge Avenger were bruised from a hard hit, they showed how tough and competitive they can be with a second place finish this past Saturday. As practice began Kennington and the Castrol Crew were anxious to see how the many hours of work necessary would pay off.  They would find out quickly as Kennington put up solid practice laps.  “It was a lot of work to get this car ready, but by the end of the night we knew that we got had it fixed right” said the driver.  “It’s probably the best we’ve been all year” he added.  Kennington would take a cautious approach with the Castrol Dodge on a slick race track during qualifying and begin the Ontario Dodge Dealers Ram 250 from the eleventh spot  “Conditions were pretty tricky and I didn’t want to take any chances, we felt the car was good” said the driver afterwards. Right from the start of the race Kennington was moving the Castrol Dodge forward in the field and very quickly into the top-ten and approaching the top-five.  “We had the set up right in the first part of the race and that helped us get the Castrol Dodge up into contention pretty quickly” said DJ. Kennington continued to maneuver his race car forward and on lap 62 the team was rewarded for ...

ANTIGONISH, NS - The Mopar Parts Dodge team surge in performance over the last few races continued at round number twelve of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series, the Atlantic Dodge Dealers 300 at Riverside Speedway near Antigonish, Nova Scotia on Saturday night.  After another total team effort Ron Beauchamp Jr. stepped onto the podium to claim a third place finish in the grueling event. Right from the opening of practice Team Mopar was on their game.  The #60 Mopar Parts Dodge Avenger was among the quickest cars right away.  “I like this track” said Beauchamp and Chris Couvillion and I have really been clicking since he came aboard and we’re just feeding off each other”. Beauchamp would turn in a smoking qualifying lap during time trials just missing the pole position by 1/1000 of a second.  While there was disappointment at not claiming top spot in qualifying the team was confident they would perform well for the entire 300 lap race.  “It really would have been nice to take the pole” said the driver “but as soon as qualifying was over we were focusing on the race”. As competition began in the Atlantic Dodge Dealers 300 Beauchamp tried to shoot forward and gain the five bonus points for leading a lap but was unable to do so.  “At the start of the race the car was a little bit tight on me” he stated.  “The Mopar Parts Dodge handled better on the outside and when we had a couple of restarts in the first part of the race and I was on th ...

ANTIGONISH, NS - The #84 Fitzpatrick Motorsports Chevrolet with John Ryan (J.R.) Fitzpatrick at the wheel has shown plenty of speed all season long on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.  This past weekend at round number twelve at Riverside Speedway the 20 year old Fitzpatrick scored his first pole position of the season, and followed his teammate Don Thomson Jr. to the finish line in a one-two finish to the 300 lap race. Right from the start of the afternoon practice session the #84 Chevrolet was fast.  “This was a really fast race car right from the start of the day” said an enthusiastic Fitzpatrick.  “We made a few adjustments to try and improve it but when we drew the first qualifying slot I didn’t think we had much of a chance at the pole”. Fitzpatrick would claim the first pole position award for the #84 team with a time of 14.935 seconds and an average speed of 80.268 mph and begin the race on the inside of row number one.  J.R. would hold the lead of the race for the first twenty six laps before surrendering the spot to his teammate.  The two drivers would alternate at the front of the field for the first 115 laps.  “I was having a good battle with my teammate out there, it’s great to race that way, both of us with good give and take, it’s a lot of fun”. The fun would end however when following a caution period NASCAR officials ruled that Fitzpatrick “jumped the restart” and began racing before he was allowed.  The penalty w ...

September 7, 2008.  Don Thomson Jr. and the Home Hardware Chevrolet team once again demonstrated dominating speed at round number eleven of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series (NCATS) at Barrie Speedway this past Saturday night.  And despite finishing on the podium there was disappointment in the overall result. As has been the case much for the entire racing season the Home Hardware Chevrolet has shown blistering speed at the oval tracks.  The 1/3 mile oval at Barrie Speedway was the latest victim as Thomson blazed to a new track record of 14.066 seconds and his sixth pole position starting spot on the season. Through the opening half of the 300 lap event the Home Hardware Chevrolet would dominate leading 134 of the first 157 laps.  “The Home Hardware car was really good at the start but it kept getting a little tighter as the race went on, but come pit stop time the team made the proper adjustments to keep up with the changing conditions” said Thomson.   Though not running on the point position in the same dominating fashion as the first half of the race, the Home Hardware Chevy was always in contention.  “I knew how good the car was handling and wanted to make sure we were in a position at the end to get another win for the Home Hardware Chevy” said the driver. As the race approached the final stages Thomson began to maneuver the Home Hardware Chevrolet into position for the run to the finish.  As he used the outside line and battle ...

Don Thomson Jr. and the Home Hardware Chevrolet team did it again during the final round of the 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire series (NCATS) series at Kawartha Speedway this past weekend.  Thomson for the seventh time this season would post the quickest qualifying time and start the 250 lap race from the pole position.  It was exactly the start the team wanted as they looked to continue their charge and attempt to grab the overall championship.  The Home Hardware Chevrolet crew was as usual well prepared and gave their driver a fast race car and Thomson clicked off the quickest qualifying time at 18.190 seconds for an average speed of 74.217 MPH.  This was exactly what the team needed to keep their title hopes alive. Thomson would accept the green flag to start the race and then proceed to hold that position for the first 42 laps of the race.  Without warning however a miss in the motor would be the first of several hurdles the Home Hardware team would face.  “Coming out of turn two it just started missing again, we lost a spark plug wire” said a frustrated driver who takes great pride in performing much of the work on the car himself.  “That won’t happen next year, we’re going to change our distributor system” he added. The Home Hardware crew went to work making a series of stops to correct the problem under the hood and has been the case all season; they were calm and cool under pressure knowing there was still plenty of racing to be do ...
