I know, I know, I know, where have I been? For all the notes I am getting about slacking on the blog people could be putting in their own entries. So this weekend my body went on strike (complaints about lack of sleep and not enough sugary goodness in my diet), my Sweet 16 picks were completely horrendous, and Michael is intimidating me with his references to the academy and systematic methods of making picks. System? Tell me more about this word you are using it sounds lovely. So I admit I was avoiding having to expose myself as the big loser that I am. Is that a harsh assessment? I think not. None of the teams from my Sweet 16 picks made the Final Four. None. So with hindsight of the first two rounds I still picked 100% incorrectly. So that is one big bright spot -- my inaccuracy percentage has risen to perfection. I have achieved losevanna. LSU: How did that happen? I mean, c'mon. I can understand beating Texas as they are a team that has had some spectacular losses, but Duke is better than this. They put in 52 points. NC State could have done that. I don't like Duke so no biggie personally, but my bracket! Redick totally tanks it with 11 points and shooting 3 of 18. Everyone is crying and whining about his final college game. Whatever. The guy is poised to make more money in a signing bonus than the combined income of all the people who write on this blog over a lifetime. George Mason: How did that happen? Oh UConn, you big group o ...

The final: Syracuse vs. Johns Hopkins Syracuse and Hopkins were the STX teams among the final four. Virginia is a Gait-sponsored team and Duke is with Brine. But STX, the Baltimore-based lacrosse manufacturer could celebrate on Saturday knowing they could not lose on Monday. So even though the final four was not in Baltimore, we were well represented on the field thanks to STX. And the gear looked great! Hop’s helmet stickers were cool too, featuring the cartoon lettering instead of the bird or the H. They need more levity around the Dave Pietramala coached team, based on his facial expressions during the games. A great Hopkins coach once said, “Lacrosse is a lot of fun – IF YOU WIN.” That’s kind of the Hopkins way. But those helmets were fun even in a loss. They’ll probably never see the light of day again. We’ll see. Syracuse had some secret weapons this weekend. Like the whole team in general, Mike Leveille was underestimated. He won the Lowe’s award with a 3.8 GPA in accounting and the Tewaaraton Trophy Thursday night over heavy favorites Matt Danowski and Paul Rabil after lifting the trophy on Monday. But the Orange also had Roy Simmons Jr., the legendary coach, who lent some of his wisdom and inspiration: “Anything before you; anything behind you; it doesn’t matter. It’s what’s inside you that matters”. Simmons is great. I was hanging out with Liam and John Banks at the tailgate as I have now made a habit, and as usual, I was ...

Filed under: March Madness , NCAA Basketball Fans , NCAA Basketball Rumors The NCAA and Ticketmaster have been named in a class action lawsuit claiming that the NCAA Tournament ticket lottery is illegal . A class action suit has been filed against the NCAA and Tickmaster, claiming the two organizations violated racketeering laws by making ticket purchasers pay a non-refundable fee to enter a lottery for the right to purchase tickets to high-profile sporting events including the NCAA Tournament. "The NCAA and Ticketmaster have come up with a scheme that would make a Vegas bookie blush," said Rob Carey, an attorney representing the named plaintiff. "We will show that this NCAA practice has illegally taken millions of dollars out of consumers' pockets." The defendants in the suit are from California and Indiana -- two states that only allow lotteries if they are run by the state or are for licensed charities. There is two ways to look at this: the class action suit was made by sore losers who couldn't get their hands on tickets and want to spoil the fun for everyone. Or that these people are right. Well, there is a third way: they are both right. I think the lottery is a good way to go. It actually does give people the opportunity to buy tickets, even if it is remote. If this was first come/first serve, then scalpers and the like would gobble up these tickets and drive the prices (even more) through the roof. However, it is bullcrap ...

Filed under: March Madness , NCAA Basketball Fans , NCAA Basketball Rumors , New York When you think of basketball venues nowadays, Madison Square Garden doesn't top the list as it used to. That's a shame because it truly was the Mecca of hoops in this country and it wouldn't be a bad thing if it could return to form. Due to a massive upcoming renovation , MSG could become the center of the basketball world once again. Well, maybe not the center -- but in the neighborhood. MSG is hoping that the upgrade will allow them to get back in the NCAA Tournament picture. The World's Most Famous Arena last hosted an NCAA Tournament game back in 1961. It has hosted seven Final Fours and has hosted NCAA Tournament games in 17 seasons. Sure, the N.I.T. holds its title there, the Big East Tournament is held there ... and there are many tournaments and neutral site games held there during the season. However, nothing in college hoops is bigger than The Big Dance and MSG has been left out for a long, long time. The renovations are said to be done by 2011 ... giving them a timetable to make a run for a site in the 2012 Tournament. Right now, the Tournament committee is thinking about future sites to hold the Tournament. Obviously, having the NCAA Tournament in New York City, the largest market and basketball capital, would make March Madness even more ... maddening. Now, getting the Final Four is out of reach (the NCAA has a domes-only policy now ...
