Danny Ainge had an eventful day on Wednesday, even before his Boston Celtics took the floor for Game 5 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. His oldest daughter, Ashley, gave birth to Ainge’s sixth grandchild, Siena, a couple of hours before the Celtics faced the Cavaliers. On top of that, Ainge was named the NBA’s executive of the year after putting together a team that had the league’s best regular-season record. Ainge, the Celtics’ executive director of basketball operations and general manager, was honored after making trades that brought All-Stars Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to Boston. He also built a strong bench that featured James Posey and Eddie House for a team that went 66-16. The award went to Ainge nearly five years to the day when he was hired by the Celtics. The Pistons aren't coasting through the playoffs? After taking care of the Magic in game 5 to close out the series, I'd say Detroit is the favorite to represent the East in the Finals no matter what happens in the Celtics-Cavs series. Even without Billups, the Pistons were able to send the Magic to the offseason.
In the other game, the Spurs vs Hornets, New Orleans once again was able to pull away in the 3rd quarter. With a 28-11 3rd quarter, the Hornets continue to make the necessary halftime adjustments (at home) to get them the key wins they need. It's amazing how this Spurs team with all of those experienced veterans is getting killed in the 2nd half of away games. Is Bryon Scott outcoaching Greg Popovich?
