Seattle based iLike just expanded their recent streaming Music deal with Rhapsody to allow any website or web application to add streaming Music to their sites. Integration is dead simple (I've done it below). A long list of partners launches with them, including Google, Evite, TypePad, SGN, Flixster, Watercooler, Connected Weddings, Slide and Mesmo TV. The big hook here is that it's dead simple for developers to add simple playlists to their apps. The Music is served up via straight HTML and Javascript, not the usual Flash widgets. Listeners can create, edit and listen to playlists without any registration with iLike. The only limitations are those imposed by Rhapsody, which limit any individual to just 25 song listens per month. After that, they have to pay for a $13/month account. ...

Get ready to hear streaming Music in a lot more places around the Web. iLike, the Music sharing service with hugely popular apps on Facebook, hi5, and Orkut is rolling out its own Platform , allowing any developer to incorporate the company’s Music catalog into their applications and websites. And, they are launching it with some major partners, including Blogger, Typepad, Evite, and some of the most popular applications on Facebook. From a technical standpoint, iLike’s Platform is unique (for the moment) because it allows developers to utilize HTML and Javascript as opposed to Flash, enabling apps to offer Music features that can be tightly integrated with existing functionality. For example, here are a few of my favorite use cases from iLike’s launch partners, which co-founders Ali and Hardi Partovi shared with me ahead of today’s release: eVite: The original event management service will allow invitees to contribute songs to the playlist for the party. Blogger and Typepad: Post a playlist to your blog and invite your readers to contribute. Connected Weddings (Facebook App): Wedding guests can suggest songs, with the bridge and groom ultimately having control over what songs make the cut. Similar to iLike’s own website and applications, there are some restrictions on the streaming Music. Each listener can only stream up to 25 full tracks per month, at which point they’ll need to either upgrade to Rhapsody’s subscription service ...

iLike has launched Music sharing applications on most of the popular social networks including hi5 back in December . Today iLike is announcing the launch of their own Platform which will allow developers to integrate Music listed on iLike into applications across the Web. iLike has selected several partners for today's launch including: eVite, Slide, Flixster, Blogger, Typepad and Connected Weddings. Adam Ostrow has a good overview of the way each of the partners will integrate the new Platform into their services. Adam also notes, "Similar to iLike's website and applications, there are some restrictions on the streaming Music. Each listener can stream up to 25 full tracks per month, at which point they'll need to either upgrade to Rhapsody's subscription service (iLike's main digital Music partner) or be restricted to 30-second previews." iLike will generate revenue from the Platform by pushing the Rhapsody upgrades. Developers won't receive a cut of the revenue - they will likely need to work on increasing engagement and that will need to generate the additional revenue if desired. How will iLike handle the upcoming competition from MySpace? We will need to wait and see but getting developers on your side could be a very strong start. The newest project from uber-social networking site MySpace is a Platform that aims to radically alter the digital Music landscape and also unseat the still-dominant iTunes Platform. The store will allow fans to stream millions of songs for free in an ad-supported framework, and sell digital downloads with help from the Amazon MP3 store. Chris DeWolfe, the site's co-founder explains: You'll be able to see the top songs your friends are listening to. Eventually you'll be able to buy tickets and merchandise and ringtones. When you look at things like iLike and Facebook, they don't have the full songs, in most cases, and they don't have official artist pages. People aren't interested in Music on Facebook in the way they are on MySpace, That's one of the big keys here. The new service is a partnership between top labels Universal, Sony BMG and Warner, and the smallest major label, EMI, is reportedly in discussions to join soon. The Music industry has long locked horns with Apple's iTunes which has used it's dominance of the market to maintain single pricing across the catalogue and has sufficient market power to make demands of the labels. ...
