Related Articles The effects of the Mulligan Sustained Natural Apophyseal Glide (SNAG) mobilisation in the lumbar flexion range of asymptomatic subjects as measured by the Zebris CMS20 3-D motion analysis system. BMC Musculoskelet Disord. 2008 Oct 1;9(1):131 Authors: Moutzouri M, Billis E, Strimpakos N, Kottika P, Oldham JA ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Mulligan's mobilisation techniques are believed to increase the range of movement (ROM) in patients with low back pain. The primary aim of this study was to investigate the application of the Mulligan's Sustained Natural Apophyseal Glide (SNAG) technique on lumbar flexion ROM. The secondary aim was to measure the intra- and inter-day reliability of lumbar ROM employing the same procedure. METHODS: 49 asymptomatic volunteers participated in this double-blinded study. Subjects were randomly assigned to receive either SNAG mobilisation (n=25), or a sham mobilisation (n=24). The SNAG technique was applied at the L3 and L4 spinal levels with active flexion in sitting by an experienced manual therapist. Three sets of 10 repetitions at each of the two spinal levels were performed. The sham mobilisation was similar to the SNAG but did not apply the appropriate direction or force. Lumbar ROM was measured by a three dimensional electronic goniometer (Zebris CMS20), before and after each technique. For the reliability, five measurements in two different days (one week apart) were performed in 20 healthy ... Source: www.usatoday.com --- 36 days ago
A tempest in a tee box flared this past week over the news that the LPGA Tour was requiring all of its international players, many of whom are from South Korea, to be able to speak "functional English" in post-round interviews, victory ceremonies and five- to six-hour rounds of golf with the businessmen and women who sponsor tour events or face suspension after 2009. ... It might seem like we're in a bizarro world right now with Wall St. begging like Oliver Twist for more government help, but there are a few die-hard free-marketers carrying on the good fight. For example, here are three recommendations from University of Chicago's Casey B. Mulligan writing on his new blog : - Rely on the market as much as possible. In my view, it is even more important to rely on the market in a crisis than it is in the calm. When things are calm and prosperous, we can afford anti-market policy mistakes. Arguably, now is not one of those times. - Expedite bankruptcy for the weak banks. Lower capital requirements for new banks. Allow new and expanding banks to hire talented leaders (that means no ceilings on executive compensation)...do not erect barriers for new and innovative entrants...If insured, well-capitalized and heavily regulated banks cannot coexist in a market with the unregulated, then listen to what the market is saying. - Cut taxes and sell Treasury bills. And two more arguments from Mulligan from another post here : ...each dollar spent on trouble assets likely creates additional deadweight costs by increasing the supply of troubled assets . If the Treasury pays for troubled assets, the market will oblige! In the past, we economists have not analyzed the marketplace the way epidemiologists analyze contagious diseases. I see no reason to start now. Rather, the marketplace has shown time and time agai ... Source: www.marginalrevolution.com --- 12 days ago

Chick Ludwig quotes Chad . We’re 0 and 1. We’ll be fine. It’s not a sprint. It’s a marathon. People keep forgetting who the hell we just played, man. We don’t have to deal with that every week. If last week was a game of chess, that would be the hardest it gets. So everything gets easier until we get to them again. And now that we’ve seen what they’re doing, the chess match gets a little bit easier for us because now we know how to play against ‘em. What the Ravens threw at us was completely different from everything we’ve seen the past seven years. It’s like they’ve never been able to figure us out, and all of a sudden, BOOM!, year eight, they got it. You feeling me where I’m coming from? So now we make our adjustments and it won’t be the same next time. People just have to understand that. I'm a sucker. And the thought began occurring to me that every NFL team has that game where they struggle so much, that you regret not taking that 1:30 p.m. nap. Sometimes it happens in week three, week 13. And sometimes it happens in week 1. So, with that said, I'm going to accept Chad Johnson's persuasion and anticipate a hell of a rebound. Let me also say this. It's not that the Bengals lost in week one that upset all of us. It's how they lost, to whom they lost (aka, rookie quarterback and coach) and how lost they appeared on offense. It's not the frustration of losing; it's a memory of losses we've witnessed during the Pre-Marvin Lewis ( ... Source: www.hartfordadvocate.com --- 16 days ago
