There's a little buzz around Real Networks' inspiringly-named RealDVD software, for while the company claims that it legally copies DVDs to a hard disc and adds an extra level of DRM into the mix, the Movie Industry may not be too happy about it. ...

We often think: Either director Uwe Boll doesn't get it, or he really, really gets it. Bad flick after bad flick, yet Uwe Boll keeps getting his game-to-film adaptations made. And the man's got loads of opinions about the Movie Industry, what's wrong with it, and how he can make it better. From Boll's self-penned written rant titled "The Film market — or THERE IS NO MONEY IN MOVIES": I will stop here before I start writing about totally overpaid agents, managers, agents, and studio executives in L.A. living in airballoons as long they can rip money out of the world outside of L.A. or the major companies. If I would run a studio I would do the same movies for half of the production costs in throwing the cokeheads out and cutting the bullshit of breakfast, lunch, and dinner meetings with idiots who never made a Movie in their life. I can shoot a Movie like Fantastic Four 2 in half of the time for half of the money shot by shot. Boll breaks down the problems with the film Industry and what he can do to help. (And no, it's not stop making movies. DAMMIT.) • 20 years ago maybe three movies came out every week. Now 6 to 10. • In earlier days you had 5 to 10 event movies per year. Now you have 40. And they destroy the medium movies. Not because they are good! Because they are so expensive and spending so much money in p&a to win their weekends and to win market share. • In 1999 piracy maybe destroyed 5% of the revenues — now 40%. Why? Be ...

TV Week: The Motion Picture Association of America warned the FCC this week about implementing a la carte pricing of cable TV channels at the wholesale level. The association urged the FCC to reject consumer groups request to let cable providers pick channels one by one. It suggested such regulation would violate the First Amendment. Much of the attention previously has been on allowing consumers to pick cable channels a la carte as a way to keep cable prices down. But recently, the focus has moved to letting cable providers get channels they want without having to take a bundle that includes channels they dont want. ...

When RealNetworks debuts new DVD-to-PC copying software Monday morning at DEMOfall 08 , one major selling point will be that users can sleep soundly knowing for the first time that their homemade copies of commercial movies are perfectly legal. Maybe. The motion picture Industry, which doesn't even like to see the words "DVD" and "copying" in the same sentence, says it's not ready to endorse that blanket assurance from RealNetworks, as it learned of the product only late last week. The Industry has fought such DVD copying in the past, last year losing a drawn-out courtroom battle with an upstart maker of high-end media servers, a ruling one losing attorney suggested -- warned, actually -- would "open the floodgates" to exactly the type of inexpensive DVD copying system RealNetworks is unveiling today. The Industry has appealed that court ruling. Called RealDVD, the $50 application from RealNetworks ($30 introductory price) may make digital Movie collections more accessible, portable and easier to manage ... in addition to causing consternation in the multibillion-dollar DVD Industry. So, you work for the Motion and Picture Industry, you are working in some way, shape or form for the Movie Industry or Studios?  We have you covered as well.  This brain child was the result of a few of our friends that are working at the Studio's in different capacities, where we helped them buy and sell real estate at one time or another. While at some of their homes over the last couple of months, they had been telling others about what a fantastic job we did in their personal Real Estate representation, but were telling them about Paris911 but something was lost in the translation.  Which is usually the case when even I attempt to explain that Paris is my wife and business partner for the past 18 years, and I am the 911 part.  So hence together you have Paris911. However, we have sole and independent search sites for Real Estate that had been built for other professions.  Such as our Foundation of Law Enforcement, Fire Department and Teachers.  The reason for this is because I am a hater of spam - AS I am sure you are as well.  The information you might desire to enter on any of these pages, is not necessary for you to search for everything you want to - but if you are wanting to save any searches or have a favorite list of properties it has to remember you.  Who's sees your data in this case - Me and Me alone - No one else.  Comforting right?  That is the scoop. www.Lapd911.com www.Lasd911.com www.Chp911.com www.LAFD911.com www.Te ...

No one believes in superheroes like studio executives, and for good reason. Crime fighters, caped crusaders and a dark knight saved their summer. Thanks to avengers masked and unmasked, this year’s summer films racked up a record $4.2 billion in ticket sales, according to season-end figures from Media By Numbers. Though increased ticket prices mean that attendance was down 3.5 percent, the total still surprised most analysts and studio executives. “I thought we were going to be about 5 percent down from last summer,” said David Poland of MovieCityNews.com. Last year had a diverse slate of heroes (including an ogre and pirate), but this summer was all about secret identities. Comic-book and superhero films alone racked up nearly $1.4 billion. “I don’t think you can consider them a genre or a niche any more,” Christopher Nolan said after directing “The Dark Knight.” “They are serious literature, which is why serious actors and filmmakers want to be a part of them.” Indeed, films that leapt from the comics also generated some of the best reviews: The Batman installment garnered raves from 94 percent of the nation’s critics, according to RottenTomatoes.com. “Iron Man” got recommendations from 93 percent, and graphic-novel-based “Wanted” got a thumbs-up from three-fourths of reviewers. In addition to churning out some well-crafted flicks, studios did something rare: They got original. There were nine sequels this summer, the lowest number in ...

"I'm not impressed with Hollywood in general. They don't make a lot of movies that lift our standards and morality." That's what director Alex Kendrick told me in a telephone interview on Monday after his new Movie Fireproof (IDP Films/Samuel Goldwyn) generated a downright shocking $6.5 million opening weekend. Los Angeles and New York are filled with talented film professionals, who spend countless hours and millions upon millions of dollars making movies. The cost of development, production, a director, actors and marketing make the craft of filmmaking prohibitive. So how did a little church in Georgia score the fourth-best gross of the just-completed weekend? ...
