http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/20...ch-with-my.html "Previously, when you went to google.com from your Phone’s browser and performed a local search, the results were tailored to the last location you entered. Now, using the Gears Geolocation API, Search with My Location approximates your actual location using the same Cell ID technology used by Google maps for Mobile. So if you want to find sushi nearby, just type "sushi" and Google will return local business listings around you. If you want to know the forecast, type "weather". If you want to search somewhere else, specify a location in the query like "pizza Kansas City." On your Mobile device, go to www.google.com/m Click the Location link Tell it to install Gears. A Windows CE CAB will be downloaded that you need to install. Soft reset your device when the install is done. Launch PIE and allow Google Gears access to your browser It isn't perfect. It thinks I am 13 miles northwest of my present location, which is odd. The Tower locator system that the Google Maps tool uses can always get me to within half a mile of my real location, and usually under 1,000 yards. It also isn't on the iGoogle page yet on your device, so you either have to pick the iGoogle personalized page to search from, or the generic Google Mobile page, but not both. Right now it is limited to the US and UK, and there are a list of unsupported devices, so check the blog post before installing. ...

Updated at 12:30 pm on 9/16/08 with more details about Google Maps' location accuracy. MyLocation before its nip/tuck, and after. (Credit: Google) This week, Google's Mobile team let loose with an updated version of MyLocation, a feature of Google Maps that geolocates your position based on cell Tower triangulation. It fixes a minor, but distinct drawback: an overly generous target. MyLocation, which launched about a year ago, was the first implementation of its kind we've seen for a Mobile app, and it gave a taste of GPS to users whose low and mid-grade phones were without--the majority of the cell Phone-owning population. However, the best MyLocation could do was inscribe you on the map within a mile radius of your actual presence. Not bad when you compare it to the entirety of global geography, but not as precise as you'd like if you're, say, on foot in bustling New York City. Google promises that the blue bubble mapping your location will become more precise, shrinking in size if you're amidst dense population. In the way of specifics, Google's knowledge of Mobile towers lets the map application nail down your location relative to your position among the cell towers. While that's nothing new, improvements to Google's cell Tower database directly informs accuracy, so the more towers they've got in the system, the smaller the circle can be and the closer its center will be to where you've planted your feet. At present, says a G ...

Google has made some adjustments to the blue "My Location" circle on the Mobile version of its mapping product. If you're in a metropolitan area, the circle will be smaller. If you're in a rural area, the circle will become bigger. The reason behind the change and the sizes has to do with cell Tower triangulation. Google gathers data from cell towers near your Phone to determine your location. If you're in an urban or suburban setting, you're likely to be close to more towers, giving Google the ability to pinpoint your location more precisely. If you're out in the boondocks, you have access to fewer or maybe just one Tower, so the location is more approximate. What do you think about the change? Let us know in the comments! After nearly 7 years with Alltel, we've decided to switch providers. Alltel has been great for us, but we're both tired of the lack of Phone selection. It seems like they get the last pick from all the big providers like Verizon and AT&T. Also, I cannot stand Verizon, and this buyout turns my stomach. Verizon is definitely not an option for us. So, we went to the mall yesterday and stopped by Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, and MetroPCS. 1. Sprint had a decent selection of phones and good plan pricing. However, their coverage map put our home on the border of a dead zone; not good. They showed me this device that plugged into my cable modem, which was essentially a cell Tower for your home. The best was the fact that the minutes, while using this device, we unlimited. Also, the wife gets a 25% discount on Sprint from her employer. Our plan was going to be about $129.99, minus a 25% discount and before taxes. 2. We really liked the T-Mobile sidekick. More than any other Phone we looked at. T-Mobile plan pricing was the lowest at $99 a month, but they had no employee discount for us. Also, the voice quality was terrible, the worst out of all 4 providers we looked at. But, those sidekicks were totally awesome. Very tempting… 3. AT&T had some great phones (iPhone & Blackjack II), but their plans were over-priced. $#0 for a data plan, per Phone, and text messaging is extra?! I thought that was ridiculous. The wifes employer gives us a 21% discount, ...

WMExperts reported recently via Mobile Burn that Google has added localized search capabilities to Google.com for Windows Mobile smartphones. The Official Google Mobile Blog says that Search with My Location is "a new way to make searching for nearby businesses on your Windows Mobile Phone faster and easier." According to Mobile Burn, the system makes use of the same cell Tower information that the Google Maps app uses to provide local results for most any search term. Go to Google.com from any Mobile browser and look for the "My location link". Nick at WMExperts says to make sure that you have Google Gears installed first. Read on for the full article ...

Google Maps for S60 (and also the UIQ and Java versions) just got more accurate, with news that Google has significantly improved its cell Tower location algorithms for its 'My location' feature ("far more accurate") to take into account Tower coverage areas - hmmm... A hearing on a proposed T-Mobile cell Phone Tower was postponed by the Lower Makefield zoning hearing board Tuesday night at the request of the company. Here's how 8 entrepreneurs beat insomnia and get ROI from rest. Your Phone may be keeping you awake - and not because it's ringing. According to a research study earlier this year which got little attention on this side of the Atlantic, Mobile phones send out radiation that hampers people's ability to sink into the deep stages of sleep. Scientists from Karolinska Institute and Uppsala University in Sweden, and from Wayne State University in Michigan, gathered 35 men and 36 women between the ages of 18 and 45 and exposed about half of them to 884-megaherz wireless signals identical to those emitted by cell phones. The other half got no radiation. The result: The people who had been subjected to the radiation took longer to enter the deep stage of sleep that refreshes and restores, and spent less time there, than the other group. The study was funded by a trade association called the Mobile Manufacturers Forum, which represents the biggest cell Phone companies in Europe. After the findings were published by MIT, the embarrassed cell Phone makers tried to play down the experiment's results, saying they were "inconclusive." But Bengt Arnetz, the Swedish professor who led the study, says there is no doubt that cell phones "have measurable ...

Samsung have announced their latest touchscreen 3G cellphone, the Pixon , complete with a 3.2-inch 240 x 400 WQVGA touchscreen, 7.2Mbps HSDPA (2100MHz) and an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus. Measuring 13.8mm thick, Samsung have proclaimed the Pixon to be “the world’s slimmest full-touch 8-megapixel camera Phone”, which unless I’m mistaken is a pretty sparsely populated niche to begin with. The camera boasts many of the features currently found in Samsung’s standalone point & shoot range, including Advanced Shake Reduction, Wide Dynamic Range, face detection and smile shot. There’s also geotagging, but no internal GPS is mentioned so it seems this is either done manually or via cell-Tower triangulation. Running the latest version of Samsung’s TouchWiz OS (though not Windows Mobile, as with the Omnia ), the Pixon has a new photo browser with accelerometer-controlled screen rotation. There’s also a media player, FM radio with RDS, video capture of up to 30 fps D1 (720 x 480) or 120 fps QGVA, Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0. Internal storage is 200MB and can be expanded with microSD cards. The Samsung Pixon will go on sale in France in mid-October, followed by most European and Asian countries; price is yet to be announced. There’s no word on when - or even if - the company is planning a US version. As one of our favorite Ambassadors, Nikhil Chawla, is fond of saying: All good things must come to an end. And so it is with the Widset Pets campaign. Our final ROTW comes from Zanmato who brought a real workhorse entry. I like it because it has just the facts-- a no frills, good ol' fashioned Ambassador report. Short and sweet: Okay this time i was queuing at Tokyo DisneySea amusement park to get to the attraction Tower of Terror. The queue was around 1 hour so that gave me a lot of time to do what i always do: Play around with my Phone :D I watched a few videos, played a bit on N-Gage and took a look on my pet. So with nothing else to do one local started a conversation with me about my Phone so i let him play around with it for a bit while i introduced myself as an ambassador. After that i showed him Widsets and told him about it and showed him Pets. He was interested in Widsets and Pets so i gave him the address so he can download and try if Widsets works with his Mobile Zanmato -- If you can contact Kristina before her leave begins do so! Otherwise we'll figure out another way to get the last loaner N82 to you.... Ambassadors hold tight. We've got a new campaign in the works, and we should be set to announce it on September 17th. Stay tuned and meantime keep the "Always with S60" reports coming! ...

<a href=" www.emfnews.org/chipcategory.html">EMF Protection Products</a> <a href=" www.emfnews.org/headset.html">Airtube Headsets</a> Here's one way for a cash-strapped district to make a little extra pocket change: Allow a cell Phone company to erect cell Phone towers at your schools. The Anoka-Hennepin school board has approved three such towers, which would be operated by the T-Mobile communications company. The 100-foot-tall towers could be put up as early as a year from now if T-Mobile gets approval from the three communities in which the towers would be located. If the plan passes muster, payoff for the district will be at least $1,500 a month per site. It could be more if T-Mobile subleases its Tower space to another company, said Chuck Holden, Anoka-Hennepin director of administrative services. Other school districts have been renting out cell Phone Tower space for up to a decade. Paul Harrington, whose St. Paul-based Carlson & Harrington consulting firm negotiated the T-Mobile agreement with Anoka-Hennepin, said he has negotiated Tower agreements with such districts as Osseo, White Bear Lake, Hastings and Stillwater. "We have a number of agreements in place with schools," he said. "They view it as a revenue opportunity." Schools, with their spacious grounds, are often good sites for such towers because there are often zoning restrictions requiring them to be specified distances from homes, Harrington said. The new Champlin Par ...
