The Games Convention in Leipzig starts today and ends August, 24. So get ready for lots of gaming news the next couple of days! As it happens, Electronic Arts is very enthusiastic about the event and the games they will present there to the press and visitors. This is what Jens Uwe Intat, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA European Publishing, had to say: "Never before has EA had such a diverse and powerful slate of offerings, and it’s been great to see consumer and critical response to our games. As more and more people come into interactive entertainment, we are ready with the best games in sports, action, casual, horror, simulation, and online. by: Charles Husemann NEWS - EA announced today that you will be able to start walling in and torturing your Sims in The Sims 3 on February 20th, 2009. You'll also have the option of buying the retail copy as well as downloading the game from EA in case you want to save gas or are just too lazy to leave the confines of your house. Sims diehards will also be able to buy a collector's edition of the game that includes some merch and a "Italian-Style Sports Car" that you won't be able to get anywhere else. Expect the game to sell like hotcakes and spawn another near endless round of expansion packs. Leipzig is looking pretty spiffy this year, and I'm really looking forward to it, considering how much of a downer E3 turned out to be. Anyway, the good folks at 1UP have posted a new bunch of photos from the site of the Leipzig event as the booths are being set up for the big shebang tomorrow. My personal favorite are the promotional figures for Lego Batman made up entirely of Lego blocks. Several major booths worth of noting is the not-little-but-big LittleBigPlanet booth, Blizzard 's World of Warcraft , Age of Conan , Tomb Raider: Underworld , and Mirror's Edge . The new EGM: Mirror's Edge. I hate to interrupt all of the wonderful comments the Japan issue of EGM has been getting to keep the line moving, but I had to bust this sucker out. It's the upcoming issue of EGM that should be arriving in subscriber mailboxes around the 28th of August. On that note, if it doesn't arrive on that day, don't blame me (or our distribution department), blame your mailman who's probably keeping it in his bathroom for the next few days to read what's up with EA/DICE's Mirror's Edge. I'll take this opportunity to remind you that not every issue will be as jam-packed as the Japan issue is, after all, it's not every day that you get the creator of Final Fantasy to talk about his early days in the industry, or get the first interview with a developer who recently left the company that made him famous (or is it the other way around?), or nail the first real interview with a game developer who's been in hibernation for eight years. That said, we'll still be doing our best to bring you an awesome magazine every month, and when you see this month's Mirror's Edge layout, I think you'll agree that there's no way you would see something like this online. Subscribers, consider your $1 or $2 well spent. Now that we're starting to really find our sea legs, we're taking the Japan issue approach to our magazine for reals.
