Are gas prices too high for an out-of-town Fourth? Don't despair. There's plenty of free family fun in Matthews and Mint Hill this Fourth of July weekend. Armed with just a lawn chair or blanket, you can enjoy three evenings of outdoor concerts and a special parade on the Fourth. Thursday at 7:30 p.m., the Queen City Brass Band will present a patriotic concert on the lawn of Mint Hill Town Hall, 7151 Matthews Mint Hill Road. For more information call Mint Hill Town Hall at 704-545-9726, visit the town website at www.minthill.com , or visit the Queen City Brass Band website at www.qcbb.org. Friday the Town of Matthews will hold its annual People's Parade followed by a concert at Stumptown Park. Bring your bike, wagon, stroller, or other nonmotorized vehicle to Town Hall at 5:30 p.m. to decorate. Decorations will be provided by the Town. The nonmotorized parade will start at 6 p.m. and travel from Matthews Town Hall through town to Stumptown Park. At 7 p.m., the beach music band Too Much Sylvia will present a free concert.
