This injury might spell the end for Bradley this year. Back strains are notoriously tricky. Among the issues that have cost Bradley time this season are knee, quadriceps, wrist and stomach problems. Bradley has played in 115 games (counting his official appearance in tonight's boxscore). If he doesn't play again, he'll come up about 35 plate appearances shy of qualifying for the batting title. And no matter what, he'll give the Rangers more reason to think long and hard about whether they want to make him a long-term offer. If Bradley's in the lineup, he adds an extra dimension of offensive danger; the problem is that it's very hard to keep him in the lineup. ...

According to manager Ron Washington, Bradley felt soreness in his left wrist during his first at-bat on Saturday. He took another at-bat, grounded into a disputed double play and then was ejected. While Michael Young (two broken fingers), Josh Hamilton (general soreness from a career-high number of games played), Marlon Byrd (strained thumb and sore knee), Gerald Laird (sore hamstring) and Jamey Wright (serious fatigue) continue to go out when called upon, the number of times Bradley either can't play or has to leave games early is becoming something of an issue (at least in my opinion). Can he be counted upon? Each time he comes out of the lineup or fails to play because of some other degree of soreness, I think it makes the Rangers feel less and less willing to answer that question in the affirmative. ...

The great Evan Grant explains the situation in his story about Milton Bradley : Will Bradley, who signed a one-year deal for $5 million with the Rangers last December, be going even more places when the season is done? Like to another team in free agency? Based on his 2008 season, Bradley, 30, could be one of the most productive hitters. That would suggest it would take a big dollars and multiple years worth of commitment to sign him. The Rangers will almost certainly offer Bradley at least a one-year deal in salary arbitration and would gladly work towards a settlement. If the Rangers don't offer multiple years and Bradley signs elsewhere, the club could receive up to two draft picks as compensation. This could be a tough call for the Rangers brass. Bradley has far surpassed all expectations this season, on the field and in the clubhouse. But it might not be wise to offer a 30-year-old who has played at least 100 games only three times in his career a mega-dollar, multi-year deal. On the other hand, Bradley's bat would be a huge loss if the Rangers let him go. The guy leads the league in on-base percentage by a wide margin, hits for power and protects Josh Hamilton in the lineup. Oh, and he's outstanding against lefties (.336/.486/.690 with a HR every 11.3 at-bats this season), which is especially important in the Rangers lefty-leaning lineup. Jon Daniels and Nolan Ryan didn't ask for any advice, but don't let that stop you. What ...

Our esteemed panel has returned to kick around yet another dilemma facing the Rangers this winter, and it's not an easy one. Milton Obelle Bradley has not only proven to be one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball this season, but he's basically put his reputation as a mercurial head case in the rear-view mirror, Saturday's blow up notwithstanding. By all accounts,  Bradley has been an exemplary teammate, somethign of a leader, and he's added what many believe was a much-needed dose of intensity to the Rangers' clubhouse. Yet, Bradley is increasingly reminding everyone that he's still a guy who cannot be counted on to post up for 140-150 games a year and for a variety of reasons, he's really just a DH at this point. His health record makes him a bad choice to be counted on to man the outfield, and when that choice has been made by Ron Washington, Bradley has not very good defensively. After the jump, we'll dive deep into the issue We'll lead off this week with the Godfather of Rangers bloggers, the man who practically invented the craft of baseball blogging, and a great humanitarian, Mr. Jamey Newberg , author of the Newberg Report : " I've said all season that I want Milton back, so I'm not going to backtrack now. He's been productive on the field, a positive in the clubhouse, and plays with a tenacity that the young players on this team can learn from. But his inability to stay out of the trainer's room - even when limited ...

Filed under: Rangers , AL West , MLB Gossip While the Rangers put up a good fight for the first few months of the 2008 season, in the end, they just didn't have the pitching to compete with the Los Angeles Angels out west. It sure wasn't the offense's fault, as the Rangers lineup did more than it's fair share of damage this season, and they currently lead the AL in runs (858), batting average (.281), slugging (.458) and OPS (.810). Milton Bradley has been a big reason for this, as he's hitting .316 with 22 homers and 74 RBI. As is often the case for Bradley, he's going to be a free agent this winter. Just for once, though, Milton would like to sign a long-term deal somewhere . He wants, he said, "a long-term contract." And if the Texas Rangers or anyone else only offer him a one-year deal, Bradley said that he'd be "fed up with baseball" and quit. "There's always going to be a negative knock on me," Bradley said last Friday. "If they're not going to talk about my attitude, or incidents, then they're going to talk about my health." Well, Milton, they have every right to. If a team is going to pay you millions of dollars over the course of a few seasons, those are things they should take into consideration. I believe that you have all the talent in the world, and if it wasn't for your history of attitude problems and the injuries, you'd already have that long-term deal you seek. You can get upset with the Rangers all you want for " ...

The Rangers finished 79-83 this year. There were a lot of positive developments (Josh Hamilton, great year from Milton Bradley, Chris Davis, a thriving farm system. But you've got some problems to solve to get over .500 and into post-season contention. What do you do about third base? How do you resolve the system logjams at catcher and first base? And what do you do about the pitching staff? Anyone you want to target in trades or on the free agent market? Have at it. Try and get this team into the 85-90 win range without crippling the budget. ...

I like looking at this table every season, so thought I'd put it in a fanpost. This is the Equivilent Average put up by each position this season, along with a player who closely approximates that production. Below each position is the EqA put up by the player who led his position in Runs Above Replacement Player and the player who was the worst by the same number. Essentially: this is how good the average offensive player was at each position, along with who was the best and worst in baseball. Also, since this is a Rangers board, I included the player at each position who spent the most time there as a Ranger this year and some Rangers numbers at the bottom. Full EqA numbers for all of baseball can be found here.   Average: .260 (Corey Hart, RF, MIL) NL Lead: Albert Pujols, 1B, STL (.372) AL Lead: Milton Bradley, DH, TEX (.341) First Base: .283 (Ryan Shealy, KC) Leader: Albert Pujols, STL (.372) Bottom: Ross Gload, KC (.236) Ranger: Chris Davis (.293) Left Field: .276 (Fred Lewis, SF) Leader: Manny Ramirez, BOS/LAD (.344) Bottom: Wily Mo Pena, WSH (.164) Ranger: Brandon Boggs (.263) Right Field: .276 (David Murphy, TEX) Leader: Ryan Ludwick, STL (.320) Bottom: Jeff Francoeur, ATL (.228) Ranger: David Murphy (.274) Third Base: .270 (Mike Lowell, BOS) Leader: Chipper Jones, ATL (.362) Bottom: Andy LaRoche, LAD/PIT (.177) Ranger: Ramon Vasquez (.283) Center Field: .268 (Willie "Boom Boom" Bloomquist, SEA) Leader: Grady Sizemore, CL ...
