One of the bigger, albeit more mysterious, announcements coming from SDCC this year was that Mark Millar would be returning to the Ultimate Universe in 2009. Millar helped kick off the Ultimate line in 2001, spearheading such books as Ultimate X-Men and The Ultimates. Millar has been absent from the line since the final issue of The Ultimates 2 finally shipped last year, but no longer. Marvel remained mum on any details, refusing to reveal which book Millar would be handling, and even whether his return would take place before or after Jeph Loeb's mini-series Ultimatum. At the retailer's summit today, they finally came clean. Starting next year, Millar will be launching a new series entitled Ultimate Avengers. ...

Kevin Millar got the night off last night, so at least he had an alibi after the Orioles were dominated for eight innings by rookie call-up Scott Lewis. He still took a few minutes after the game to defend the effort of his teammates and -- in a reverse psychology sort of way -- warn them about allowing this late-season tailspin change the way they go about their business: You have to be professional. You have to give 100 percent all the way through the finish line. You don't run to the finish line. You run through it. As tough as it is at times, with the atmosphere out there dead as a doornail, you've got to go out and compete. These are the times you judge people...when things aren't going your way. You've got to maintain your intensity...It's miserable. We've lost 10 out of 11 games or something like that. We're getting blown out. We got our asses kicked in Tampa. We walked 47 guys and gave up 417 runs. That's okay. We've done that to teams, too. It's not the end of the world. We're just going through some tough-ass times." ...

Mark Millar (upcoming Kick-Ass , Wanted ) says on his official website that studios have begun bidding on his new title, "War Heroes." The six-part series, written by Millar with art by Tony Harris, takes place in an America not too far off from our own, when terrorism has scorched the Earth. Our once great nation has shattered into a bastardized, third world version of its previous self. When traditional tactics prove obsolete in this new country, America's military force turns to the last weapon with any hope of - superhumanity. ...

It's definitely no secret that writer Mark Millar is a wanted man these days (or at least he wants you to believe he's a wanted man), what with his comic series Wanted doing very well in theaters and another series of his, Kick-Ass, about to start production -- not to mention all this talk of the guy possibly taking over the Superman franchise from a writing and creative standpoint. We'll get to the latter in just a second, but first up there's Wanted ... and Wanted 2 ... and, wait, Wanted 3 , too? In an interview with Newsarama , Millar spoke about how much he's participating in the Wanted follow-up ... and it would seem like he only gave the studio a "very small amount for a story, and that will be used as a basic story that they can build from." He adds, "It will be some of the stuff that we didn't utilize from the first book for the movie - like chapters three and four - there will be some stuff from that, so in the loosest sense it will be based on the book, but only very little." Millar also noted that both part two and part three are greenlit, and that James McAvoy is indeed signed on to reprise his role in both sequels. Hear what Millar has to say about his proposed seven-hour, Lord of the Rings -like Superman trilogy after the jump ... I have to admit, I had a lot of apprehensions about the movie version of Mark Millar’s “Wanted”, even more so when I heard they had veered nearly completely away from the original comic book. But then I saw the movie, and kinda liked it. It wasn’t great, mind you, but if you went into [...] ...

In the wake of the disappointment of Superman Returns , Warner Bros. has had to rethink its Superman franchise. However if Mark Miller has his way, the Superman franchise may very well have nothing to fear, not even Kryptonite. Mark Miller, the award-winning Scottish graphic novelist most famous for The Ultimates , Wanted , and the current arc of Wolverine , was interviewed by G4 recently, and revealed the possibility that he could be involved with a reboot of the Superman franchise. In addition to revealing that the movie adaptation of his comic Kick-Ass is going to be done with $70 million, rather than the measly $30 million previously reported, Miller referred to a close and very famous director that has asked him, if WB agrees, to join him on a Superman project. Miller is definitely not new to the Superman world, being completely obsessed (apparently he owns the stuffed white cat that Superman saved in one of the movies… ?) with the DC powerhouse. Not surprisingly then, Miller revealed that he has a Lord of the Rings -style epic in mind... ...
