As I watch over the game tape, it becomes evident later on that the Dallas Cowboys secondary didn't allow one deep pass the entire game against Cleveland. Of course, there is the one drop by Braylon Edwards that would have been a touchdown, but other than that, the Cowboys secondary played well. Or did ... Source: myespn.go.com --- 15 hours ago

Calvin Watkins reports that commissioner Roger Goodell has suspended CB Adam "Pacman" Jones indefinitely for his fight with team-appointed bodyguard Tommy Jones at a downtown Dallas hotel. The suspension will last at least four games. With Terence Newman recovering from surgery, first-round pick Mike Jenkins will start at left cornerback for the next month or longer. The Cowboys made cornerback their top off-season priority. The upgrades they made -- trading for Adam "Pacman" Jones and drafting first-rounder Mike Jenkins and fifth-rounder Orlando Scandrick -- gave Dallas arguably the best CB crop in the league. All of a sudden, Jacques Reeves would come in handy around these parts. Newman, the group's resident Pro Bowler, might be out until November with a sports hernia. Pacman, perhaps the most talented player of the bunch, made it five whole weeks before getting in hot water with the commish again. Even if Sheriff Goodell doesn't consider the late-night/early-morning hotel scrap an NFL parole violation, can the Cowboys have an ounce of confidence that they can count on Pacman? If Goodell decides Pacman needs to sit out for an extended period of time, a secondary that has been inconsistent has major problems. Jenkins hasn't done anything to show that he's ready to start opposite Anthony Henry, but the Cowboys will have little choice. Scandrick has actually played pretty well as Newman's nickel replacement, but it's pretty scary to rely on two rookies every time you go to three corners. Is anybody comfortable with Alan Ball playing in the dime package? He'd have to, unless the coaches decide they'd rather scrap the successful experiment of moving Henry inside to cover tight ends. Jerry Jones called this CB crop the Cowboys' strongest since he bought the franchise. Now, it's become their bigge ... Source: www.kentucky.com --- 3 days ago
Jason Elam made the most of his second chance, kicking a 48-yard field goal on the final play to give the Atlanta Falcons a stunning 22-20 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Elam appeared to be the goat after hooking a 33-yard attempt wide left with less than 3 minutes left, squandering a chance to give the Falcons an insurmountable nine-point lead. The Bears took advantage of Elam's first miss in 31 attempts, quickly driving down the field and going ahead for the first time in the game when Kyle Orton hit Rashied Davis on a 17-yard touchdown with 11 seconds remaining. Robbie Gould booted through the extra point that gave Chicago a 20-19 lead. But the surprising Falcons, coming off an upset of the Packers in Green Bay, weren't done. With many fans heading for the exits, Gould pooched the ensuing kickoff, and Harry Douglas managed a 10-yard return to the Atlanta 44. Rookie Matt Ryan, playing with the poise of a 10-year veteran, calmly threw a 26-yard pass to Michael Jenkins along the left sideline. The receiver made the catch in front of safety Mike Brown, got both feet down and tumbled out of bounds with 1 second left. ... Source: www.packers.com --- 13 days ago
Head Coach Mike McCarthy was asked on Wednesday whether his defense will miss end Cullen Jenkins more against the run in the base package or as an inside rusher in passing situations. The answer was clearly all of the above. More than anything, what the Packers are going to miss with Jenkins -- who was put on injured reserve on Wednesday for a torn pectoral muscle suffered in last Sunday's game in Tampa -- is his versatile ability to disrupt an offense in any situation, from anywhere he lined up. Coming off a 2007 season in which he battled and played through nagging injuries, Jenkins was off to the best start of his five-year career, posting 18 tackles (13 solo), plus 2 1/2 sacks, one forced fumble and one batted pass in the first quarter of the season. "I would classify his first four games as dominant, time and time again, just the way he graded out, and for his season to end the way it did, it's unfortunate for Cullen," McCarthy said. .. ... The new theme of contending with the Dallas offense - Pick Your Poison . RW2 suits up as a Cowboy. Read about it and view it. Courtney Brown could see some time at corner. Also taking reps at cornerback was Courtney Brown, the former cornerback the Cowboys moved to safety last year during training camp. Brown had been coming in the past couple of weeks on the team's sub-packages at safety, first to replace Pat Watkins when he was starting for Roy Williams and then Keith Davis when he ended up starting the past two games. Mike Jenkins will get the start opposite Anthony Henry and Orlando Scandrick will play the slot although he also got some reps on the outside. I guess with RW1 and Pat Watkins back Courtney can swing between the two spots. Pacman begins alcohol treatment. Bruce Read gets some help. ... Source: www.prideofdetroit.com --- 1 day ago
Did anyone notice that they changed the Detroitllions.com picture to Corry Redding (It had been Roy for a while now)? Is he supposed to be the new face of the lions? I hope not. The depth chart shows Shaun McDonald as our #2 receiver now. How long do you think that will last? Personally I think Mike Furrey is a more dependable receiver. Possible draft picks for our first rounders. I would like to see Detroit find a way to draft Andre Smith from Alabama (OT) and Malcolm Jenkins from Ohio State (even though I hate them). If they could find a way to trade around and pick them both up in the first round I would be ecstatic. What do you guys think? ... Source: www.cincyjungle.com --- 7 days ago

James Jones hasn't played yet . Neither has Josh Sitton. Justin Harrell is officially unavailable until week 6. Al Harris got busted up . Atari Bigby's down with a hammy . Ryan Grant is still returning from a hammy . Scott Wells had the infamous "trunk" injury . Aaron Rodgers sprained his shoulder . AJ Hawk might have some issues . So might Korey Hall. Nick Collins and Charles Woodson have been toughing it out . Cullen Jenkins is gone for the season . Did I miss anybody? Needless to say, injuries have hit harder this season than anyone expected. The depth of the team is being tested more than people would probably like. However, take a look at the players getting PT in place of injured starters: Jordy Nelson, Tramon Williams, Will Blackmon, Aaron Rouse, Daryn Colledge, Tony Moll, Mike Montgomery, Brandon Chillar, Brandon Jackson, John Kuhn, and possibly Matt Flynn. These are all extraordinarily young players with talent, the likes of which make up the foundation of this football team. Much has been made of Green Bay having one of the youngest rosters in the history of the league. It was part of the reason the 2007 season was such a surprise; it seemed that everyone outside of Brett Favre and Donald Driver had come out of college only a few years prior. However, I argue that the youth is the main reason for the success the team has had. We all know Ted Thompson's M.O: Cut loose veterans starting to lose a step (Ahman ... Oy vey. We already had problems in the secondary. I commented on it in this post . Then Tuna Helper discussed the need for Keith Davis to step up in this post . Now we get the news that Terence Newman is questionable for the game Sunday with a recurrence of the groin injury that dogged him in the preseason. This game could be a lot more interesting than we initially thought. If Newman can't go, Mike Jenkins will be forced into the nickel corner role and Orlando Scandrick will get some playing time when we go dime. When you throw in the problems at safety, this could a real test. Of course, some stellar work from the defensive line and outside linebackers DeMarcus Ware and Greg Ellis could help alleviate that problem. Hat tip to Mullin for posting the news on Newman. Brad Johnson in tights? That's an image I can do without. But after losing a bet to T.O., Brad had to pay up by wearing some T.O. gear for practice on Friday. But what I really like is Brad Johnson's comments about Owens. "He's great to work with," Johnson said. "I've been with great receivers before from Keyshawn [Johnson] to Cris Carter , Irving Fryar, and the list goes on. T.O. is great to work with, an extremely hard worker who gets along with everybody in the locker room. He's fun to be with, and you appreciate when you play with guys like that." Ha! ESPN's NFC North blogger takes a look at the final 11 seconds of yesterday's game. He makes some good analysis and just kind of says it was luck more than being 1 guys fault. He says you can't blame Babich: Babich's defense, however, was down to two cornerbacks and therefore critically undermanned in the situation. After a long day of injuries and the surprising deactivation of Nathan Vasher, the Bears were down to second-year player Corey Graham and Marcus Hamilton at cornerback. .... And in many ways it's difficult to point a finger at Babich, who no doubt is getting excoriated on Chicago sports radio as I type these words. Should Babich have blitzed, a decision that might have forced a poor throw but also would have left a linebacker and two backup cornerbacks in man coverage? Can't blame Brown: As the play unfolded, Hamilton passed Jenkins off to the deep safety, in this case veteran Mike Brown . But Jenkins simply cut off the route in front of Brown and made a 24-yard catch at the sideline before stepping out of bounds. One second remained on the clock. .... "It was just a corner route and Cover 2," Brown said. "Good ball. Good catch. Should have made the play and I didn't. I'll take the blame for that." Brown was being a team player, but it's hard to fault him. As the deep safety, his primary job is to keep everything in front of him. He did that job. ...
