No longer a rumor, it looks like Microsoft will be releasing a higher-end Xbox 360 than the current Pro SKU offers. The Xbox 360 dashboard’s Inside Xbox area has a page with the announcement, which reads: Microsoft is giving consumers more gigabytes for their buck! Available in August, the upgraded Xbox 360 will include a 60GB hard drive for storing the growing wealth of digital entertainment available from Xbox Live Marketplace, your one-stop digital Download Center. Now you’ll have even more room for music, movies, television shows, demos, Arcade games, and game content. This seems like the kind of announcement Microsoft would be making at E3; I’m guessing this was inadvertantly posted ahead of time. Combine that with stores selling the Pro system for $299.99 starting this week, and it looks like the wind is really being taken out of Microsoft’s E3 sails. ---Related Articles at Gaming Today:Rumor: Microsoft Replacing 20GB Xbox 360 with 60GB ModelXbox 360 Getting a Price Drop in EuropeRumor: Xbox 360 Price Drop is Real, 60GB to Replace 20GB SKUThe Trials and Tribulations of Replacing a 60GB PS3Blue Dragon 'International Demo' Available On July 20 ...

TiVo has been setting the bar for timeshifting television (what you want, when you want it) for the better part of a decade. Its latest models, the TiVo Series 3 and TiVo HD, further refine and extend functionality to high definition TV and downloadable movies. But the future might not be so bright for TiVo, as other players such as Microsoft' Vista Media Center, Apple's Apple TV, Netflix's Roku player , and upstarts like the Vudu aim to drink their milkshake. What's a company to do? Innovate. Use the internet. Connect users together. Go beyond broadcast TV. Here's what we think TiVo needs to put into their next box in order to dominate the living room for the next decade. Most importantly, they need to embrace the internet, which includes BitTorrent . There's no sense in fighting it since people are currently using software like TED to automatically search for and Download episodes of their favorite shows. It's like BitTorrent TiVo. West Coast users can even use it to Download episodes shortly after it's done showing on the East Coast, giving them the ability to watch shows before broadcast and without commercials . A source close to TiVo we spoke to says that they've looked at BitTorrent, but they need to differentiate between BitTorrent the protocol and BitTorrent in the sense that people are using it now to pirate shows. The current TiVos are designed to record two HD shows simultaneously, which leaves little power to run the f ...

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release to Automatic Updates quote:Hi All, Microsoft is committed to providing quality products to customers. As part of this commitment, we would like to remind you that Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) will be released to Automatic Updates shortly. The third service pack to Windows XP includes the previously released updates and hotfixes to Windows XP, creating a new baseline for servicing. Optional Actions If you wish to prevent users from installing Windows XP SP3 through Automatic Updates, Microsoft recommends you take one or more of the following steps: 1. Download and deploy the Windows Service Pack Blocker Kit. The Blocker Toolkit is available in the Microsoft Download Center. 2. Deploy an update management solution that provides full control over the updates you deploy to computers in your network (Compare Update Management Solutions). IT Administrators using an update management solution should use their product’s standard features, rather than the Blocker Toolkit, to control SP1 distribution. Citrix Systems on Tuesday announced Project Kensho, a set of tools that will allow virtual environments to be more independent of hypervisors. A technical preview of the tools will be available for Download before the end of the third quarter. The tools allow portable application workloads to be created and run across Citrix XenServer, Microsoft Hyper-V, and VMware ESX based virtual environments. [ Find out  how Hyper-V stacks up against VMware . And stay up to date on the lastest virtualization developments with InfoWorld's Virtualization Report blog and newsletter . ] Doing this will solve a multitude of issues with interoperability between different platforms, while allowing automated provisioning of applications, rather than just virtual machines, according to Citrix. Making it easier for enterprises to run a mixed environment will become increasingly important as virtualization becomes a more mainstream technology. "Every large customer I talk to doesn't want to bet the farm on just one vendor," said Simon Crosby, the CTO of the Virtualization and Management Division at Citrix, in a recent interview. Project Kensho will also allow Microsoft's System Center Virtual Machine Manager to manage XenServer, according to Citrix. Nathaniel Martinez, program director in IDC's European System Infrastructure Solutions Group, says this should give enterprises more freedom, and he agrees with Crosby that most enterprises will at some point star ...

-- Treo With Windows Mobile On Sprint: The new Treo 800w has launched with Sprint ( NYSE: S ), marking the first device to be shipped with Windows Mobile 6.1, according to Microsoft ( NSDQ: MSFT ). The Treo 800w, which is geared toward the business user, comes with WiFi, GPS and 3G and has a touchscreen with stylus and a full Qwerty keyboard. -- Highlighting the Web: IBM researchers said they have developed software that allows mobile users to clip pages off the Web and slim them down for viewing on a mobile phone, reports TechWorld . IBM's Almaden Research Center built the service, which it calls "highlight," as a Firefox browser extension. It lets users record the steps required to perform a simple task on the web—like looking up a flight—on a website, and then clip and send the relevant section of the Web site to another server, which makes the pages viewable on a mobile device. Don't get too excited yet—the IBM researcher hasn't publicly released Highlight, but may if there's enough interest in the project. -- Verizon ( NYSE: VZ ) Partners with Jonas Brothers: The pop-singing Jonas Brothers is partnering with Verizon Wireless for its 41-city "Burning Up" tour, produced by Live Nation ( NYSE: LYV ). Customers of Verizon Wireless who Download Jonas Brothers' songs, purchase ringtones or ringback tones from V CAST will be entered to win a pair of tickets to see the concert.
