(Through the web survey we held a week ago – bit.ly/RefreshDate – most of you mentioned that Refresh should be moved to the 3rd week of the month. So starting from January, we’ll do just that.) Refresh Portland is a monthly talk (held every 2nd Wednesday) about design, front-end development, usability and web standards. Our second session will feature Josh Pyles, a talented web designer focusing on design for modern web apps, and also one of the organizers of the Refresh Portland group. Our topic: “An Intro to Microformats & The Power of Semantic Web Design.” This presentation will give you practical steps on making the contents and informations that you’ve worked so hard on readable by computers and web applications. We’re considering different venue options for post-event drinks and dinner. Have an idea? Leave a comment or email hello@refreshportland.org Refresh Portland is part of the Refreshing Cities Movement. ...

All Microformats are are standardized ID and Class names to wrap data in. Really. That’s it. Say you are having a birthday party next week and you are posting about it on the web. That event has a name (Birthday party!), a location (Chuck E. Cheese!), a time (from 6:00pm-9:00pm), and some extra details (No gifts). [...] ...

I like Microformats , just another metadata format really. Lately I've been looking at the rel-tag. It says what a page is about. Can it handle a phrase "Paul Spudis", for example? Doesn't seem to be able to do that. Pretty worthless otherwise. Examples? I've been using the hCal microformat and that seems to work pretty well. With my Firefox extension I can drop the info right into Outlook. I've got the rel-tag to work but can't seem to get a phrase to work. Saying a page is about the Lunar and Planetary Institute is a lot more useful than saying it is about institute. Any suggestions? Anyone else using Microformats? ...

CreateCommand({ name: "count-hcards", execute: function() [...] ...
