Well, according to the gossip section of MSNBC. And, oh my gosh, I missed that signing. (OK, curse me for the false alarm, but some things are too good to pass up). After offering us the details on a long-lost Lohan sister, MSNBC's The Scoop (second item) details the use of bodyguards by Jessica Simpson while in Nashville. Then we transition to the report in question: In other Jessica Simpson news, In Touch is reporting that Simpson was not to blame for Tony Romo's post-season collapse, and that football doesn't come between the couple. Romo's fellow Dallas Cowboy Michael Strahan told the magazine, "If they're going to break up, it won't be because it's closer to football season, but probably because they're not happy." Ohhhh-kay. Nah. But the former Giants defensive end did joke about the possibility the other night. As we hear it, Strahan teased an audience of about 1,000 people at the John T. Petters Foundation in Minneapolis Saturday night. As Strahan addressed the crowd, he said he was ready to come out of retirement. The crowd immediately grew quiet. Strahan then flashed his patented gap-toothed smile and said he was coming out of reirement to join the Petters Group Worldwide. Strahan also joked that maybe it was a good idea to threaten a comeback with the Giants, perhaps in hopes of getting a deal like the Packers were offering to Favre to remain in retirement. Green Bay waved a $20 million package in front of Favre to entice him to stay retired, but he rebuffed the offer and ultimately forced the trade that sent the Great Green-And-White Hope to the Jets. Not a bad idea, although there's no way the Giants would have made that offer. In fact, if Strahan said he was coming back, they'd get his uniform and locker ready for a return. Strahan did his part later in the evening by helping to raise nearly $50,000 during a live auction. Also appearing at the event were Strahan's girlfriend, Nicole Murphy, comedian Kevin Nealon, and Strahan confidant Rich "Big Daddy" Salgado, the former Long Island schoolboy star offensive lineman who now insures several NFL and NHL players, including Justin Tuck of the Giants and Bill Guerin of the Islanders. ... Recently retired Giants DE Michael Strahan exchanged man hugs and handshakes with a whole bunch of Cowboys players and coaches this morning. But not everybody was happy to see Strahan. Matter of fact, TE Jason Witten said the sight of the ex-sackmaster made him sick. Witten meant no disrespect, but Strahan's presence in Oxnard reminded him that the Cowboys let a shot at a Super Bowl slip away last season. Strahan rode off into the sunshine after winning a ring in his 15th season. He's smoothly transitioned into a happily retired, unbiased Fox analyst. His message to the Cowboys: "It's your turn. If you want it, go get it." However, Strahan doesn't see the Cowboys as the NFC favorites. He's sticking with the defending champs. "When one team is the champ, you have to go with the champ until they're knocked off," Strahan said. "That's why you have to lean that way. Apparently, there's a reason that the Giants were the champions last year. "I'm not just saying that because I played for the Giants. It's just my belief that until the champs are knocked out, you can not have somebody else on top." ...
