Jon Voight is an Academy Award-winning actor who is well-known for his humanitarian work and as estranged father of Angelina Jolie. Voight has just joined a short list of celebrities that has publicly come out against Barack Obama. Voight wrote an opinion editorial for The Washington Times , in which he admits that during the Vietnam era he was caught up in the "hysteria" which was brought about by what he calls the "Marxist propaganda underlying the so-called peace movement." Bernard Goldberg managed to get a rise out of Jane Hall tonight, 8/14, during their weekly segment on The O'Reilly Factor when he criticized Elizabeth Edwards because she didn't stop her husband's presidential aspirations after learning about his affair. After Hall scolded him harshly, Goldberg continued his critique of Elzabeth while O'Reilly looked on uncomfortably. The first part of the segment was predictable and useless stuff about Rev. Michael Pfleger mentioning O'Reilly and Hannity during a speech to journalists. It was just another opportunity for BOR to remind viewers of Wright and Pfleger and for Goldberg to talk about the liberal media and his years at CBS. Hall was annoyed enough to go after FOX News which is a rarity for her noting that the network went overboard playing the Wright clips over and over again. When O'Reilly asked for a take on the Edwards story, Goldberg came out with, " I don't think Elizabeth Edwards is the saint the media makes her out to be." Hall brought up the despicable comment made by Rush Limbaugh but couldn't bring herself to repeat it word for word. Then she suggested that Goldberg was blaming Elizabeth for the affair like Limbaugh had done. Goldberg had previously said " Nobody wants to go after Elizabeth Edwards because they feel sorry for her." Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Thursday that he was “deeply disappointed” by a supporter’s sermon at his church that mocked Hillary Rodham Clinton, The Associated Press is reporting. The Rev. Michael Pfleger, a Chicago activist, also apologized for last Sunday’s sermon at Obama’s church, in which he said Clinton’s eyes welled with tears before the New Hampshire primary because she felt “entitled” to the Democratic nomination and because “there’s a Black man stealing my show.” In video circulating on the Internet, Pfleger said the former first lady expected to win the nomination before Obama’s sudden popularity. (See the video below) “She just always thought that, ‘This is mine. I’m Bill’s wife. I’m White.’ … And then, out of nowhere, came ‘Hey, I’m Barack Obama.” And she said, ‘Oh damn, where did you come from? I’m White. I’m entitled. I had sort of assumed that, fast and furious as they come, celebrity opinions on matters of state would be confined to a succinct, well-crafted endorsement. Three sentences, delivered amiably--perhaps vetted with the campaign in question--and certainly not descending to the pettiness or mischaracterizations to which enough regular pundits subject the public. But this week, an improbable duo has proven me wrong. First, Jon Voight penned an incredible rant in the Washington Times , which reads as follows: Sen. Barack Obama has grown up with the teaching of very angry, militant white and black people: the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, William Ayers and Rev. Michael Pfleger. Surely Voight's thesaurus could come up with better modifiers to remind us all that Obama knows black people . Even casting aside the conflation of suspicion and action, past and future, Voight's argument is suspect. Why, on the issues, if I had to name a politician I'd describe as angry and militant, I'd choose white Senator John McCain. And while I agree fully that mentorship can have a serious impact on a fledgling mind, what's this "grown up" part?
