Michael Irvin wasn't the best football player in the room. He wasn't even the best at his position. But he absolutely stole the show when it came to making people laugh. Recently Yardbarker teamed up with Ronnie Lott and All Stars Helping Kids to throw a Hall of Fame fantasy football draft party. In addition to Irvin and Lott, the event played host to an additional dozen or so past or current stars, including Jerry Rice, Marcus Allen, Warren Moon, Tim Brown, Charles Haley, Brent Jones, Ted Hendricks and Tom Rathman, a former 49ers star who currently coaches Raiders RB Darren McFadden. McFadden attended along with teammate CB Nnamdi Asomugha . Add this profile as a favorite and you'll be notified in your News Feed whenever we post new content from the event. We've got some interviews on stage, from the green room prior to the event, and also some footage of the draft itself. Each former player in attendance was on hand to help draft a fantasy football team. In case you're wondering, the first "reach" of the night belonged to... well, you'll just have to wait and see. Before the start of the NFL season, we'll release, along with more video, full team rosters drafted by the Hall of Famers. In the meantime, check out this video of Michael Irvin making the most of his entrance. - Dewey Original Story: http://www.allstarshelpingkids.org/fanta... . ...

I was sitting here all prepared to write up a real nice piece on the Hall of Fame inductions tomorrow. Write up a “Football is finally here” piece about the fact that this weekend, you actually will be able to watch 60 minutes of pre-season action. Then, I clicked over to NFL.com to confirm some [...] ...

Here's two ESPN Radio guys doing some video work. Irvin and Galloway talk Cowboys verse Browns... I agree with points on both side of this argument. Wade isn't soft, but he has to have this team ready go full speed right from the jump. If the Cowboys come out and are .500 at the halfway point Wade be fired in my opinion. ...

Dear Roger Goodell- Pardon our ignorance here, but could you possibly explain your new policies to us season-ticket holders? We are confused. We understand that we will no longer be able to sell our tickets to a third party. After two warnings, we lose our tickets. Is this really fair? You approved this? Third parties can't use our stuff? How come Michael Irvin got to blame a pot pipe on a third party, even though it was found in his car? It's OK for him to have third parties as an excuse, but not us? Newsflash Roger- selling tickets at a higher price is the American way of life. Wanna bet if you got a percentage of the profits we made that this wouldn't even be an issue? But sometimes, there are sound reasons for not going to the games. Like our team stinks this year. Let some other poor sucker watch the game. Maybe we lost our job and need the dough? Maybe the babysitter canceled at the last minute. Maybe we are really sick. What the heck is wrong with that? Isn't it better that the NFL is still collecting money from concessions and $8 beers from any fan versus showing empty seats on TV? You also seem to be a little miffed over the behavior of us fans. Drunkeness, foul language and any offensive behavior may result in ejection from the games? Isn't that a little like expecting concertgoers at a gangsta rap concert from refraining from foul language? Just what do you expect from NFL fans? Your players get paid millions to act li ...

In April (During the NBA Playoffs), Josh Howard held a well publicized radio interview with Michael Irvin, condoning the use of marijuana and in that same interview said other players in the league use it also. On that same night, Howard suited up to play in Game 3 of the Mavs-Hornets series and after its conclusion, distributed flyers to his birthday bash. Mark Cuban addressed these issues and Josh apologized knowing that his reputation had taken a major hit. I along with countless Mavericks thought Josh's shenanigans were over until last Thursday. J-Ho was charged with 3 counts of speeding in North Carolina. #5 was already involved in a trade with the Kings for Ron Artest prior to the traffic incident and the Mavs turned it down, now has Howard's latest antics secured his spot on the trading block? I believe so. One of the premier small forwards in the league, the former Wake Forest standout averaged 19.9 PPG,7 RPG, and 2.2 APG. I've decided to crunch the numbers and here are trades that would involve Howard that would benefit both The Mavericks and their trade partner: Option #1 Mavs send SG/SF Josh Howard SG Jerry Stackhouse to Los Angeles for SF/PF Lamar Odom PG Jordan Farmar Displeased with Lamar’s performance in the postseason, the Lakers were engaged in talks with Sacramento about trading for Ron Artest, but unfortunately the transaction fell through. With Lamar Odon only having one year remaining on his deal and his lack ...

We're less than a week into training camp, and the Dolphins' quarterback situation remains as unsettled as it did a month ago. In fact, it might even be worse. Face it, it's not good news when Michael Irvin reports on his radio show in Dallas that former Cowboys second-round pick Quincy Carter is coming to Miami for a workout. ...

It happened about the same time last year. Almost precisely a year ago, in fact, we last heard these bold claims coming from University of Miami football players. Players convinced that the lean times were past and that all it took was a new coach and a courageous comment to thrust the program back to the dominant days of Michael Irvin or Gino Toretta or Ed Reed. ...

Here's a fascinating little tidbit picked up by SI's media impresario Richard Deitsch about former Cowboy and venerable Playmake r ("I BLEED ORANGE AND GREEN") Michael Irvin. After getting let go from both ESPN and Fox at various points in his post-football career, Irvin has been hired by the NFL Network to work the league's Hall of Fame induction ceremony on August 2nd. Irvin, whose articulateness hovers just a shade above Emmit Smith's indecipherable verbal stylings, was seemingly just handed the job by NFL Network Executive Producer Eric Weinberger. When asked by Dallas Morning News writer Barry Horn if this latest stint was a possible audition for full-time work at the Network, Weinberger said, "Michael doesn't need to audition for anyone. We all know he's one of the most charismatic and hard-working talents out there." We do? From Rick "Goose" Gosselin's Inside the NFL column: I received an advance copy of Jeff Pearlman's book Boys Will Be Boys , detailing "the glory days and party nights of the Dallas Cowboys destiny." I've been a fan of Pearlman since reading his biography on Barry Bonds, Love Me, Hate Me. He's a gifted storyteller. Pearlman doesn't pull any punches in documenting the rise and fall of the 1990s Cowboys. What they did on the field was admirable, but what they did off the field was at times despicable. This is a tale of self-destruction - and not just publicly at the top where Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson could no longer co-exist. This team self-destructed in the locker room as well. Pearlman dug deep in his research, speaking with the likes of Rob Awalt, Cory Fleming, Derrick Lassic and Clayton Holmes in addition to franchise A-listers Michael Irvin, Jay Novacek, Mark Stepnoski and Darren Woodson in printing what went right and wrong during the dynasty. More went wrong than most Cowboys fans would care to know. It's a real page-turner. You might recall Pearlman's gut-wrenching story on Clayton Holmes for ESPN.com . I don't know how pleasant this book will be to read, but it ought to be mighty interesting. ...

Cullen Jones wanted to make a statement about diversity and swimming. He found the perfect opportunity Monday after competing in what is being called one of the greatest relay races in Olympic history. U.S. swimmer Jason Lezak chased down French anchor Alain Bernard to help the Americans win the 400-meter relay in a world-record time of 3 minutes, 8.24 seconds, .08 seconds faster than France. As Lezak out-touched his rival, Cullen jumped so high "I almost fell in the pool," he said. Because the comeback gave Michael Phelps his second gold medal of the Beijing Games, Jones' barrier-breaking statement didn't garner much attention Monday. But he became just the second African-American swimmer to win Olympic gold. Anthony Irvin, who tied Gary Hall Jr. in the 50 freestyle at the Sydney Games, did it eight years ago. Jones, who trains in Charlotte, N.C., wasn't about to let the moment pass. ...

Filed under: Redskins , NFC East , NFL Hall of Fame Over the years, it was fans who clamored for Art Monk to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Art Monk, typically, never said much. While flashier contemporaries like Michael Irvin were getting in, the quiet Monk kept getting passed over (seven times). Tomorrow, Monk will finally see his name next to Irvin and the other great players in NFL history. "They seem to get the attention. But for guys like myself, I don't care. That's just not who I am. That's not what I'm about. I'm not doing it for recognition. I'm doing it because I love this sport, and I want to win and do the best I can. If you do that, people will recognize you." All Monk did was hold the single season receptions record (a once-amazing 106) and consecutive games with a reception (164). He also held the all-time receptions record. All those records have since been broken by either Jerry Rice or products from a pass happy NFL. None of that discredits what Monk did. Sure, it's hard to go back and find that one great Monk play but all those slants over the middle, curls and sideline grabs that moved the chains were equally important. If anyone could do it, why haven't many? And he did so before rules changes in the early 1990s made it difficult to defend the pass game. Don't get me wrong: there is nothing wrong with being a flashy receiver who produces. Guys like Irvin certainly belong in the Hall. But for eve ...

Former Giant Tim Hasselbeck - who famously described the team's level of annoyance with Jeremy Shockey in a radio interview during Super Bowl week - has joined ESPN as its newest NFL analyst, leaving Sean Salisbury, Michael Irvin and me as the only living people ever associated with pro football who are not currently working as analysts for the network. I attended a seminar for players aspiring to be broadcasters at NFL Films last year, and Hasselbeck clearly was a keeper with excellent potential on TV. He told me it helps that his wife is on TV regularly and can help him improve. ...

I discovered that when I read the headline on my column in the paper about Brett Favre facing the Giants - his nemeses - for the first time since the NFC Championship Game seven months and 80 degrees ago at Lambeau Field. There's some interesting stuff from Favre on what his dad might have told him during the off-season soap opera that ultimately ended with his divorce from the Packers' organization. There's also a tidbit about a conversation I had the other day with Michael Strahan about Favre. I had mentioned to Strahan that he did the right thing by taking all the time he needed before finally realizing he was ready to retire, as opposed to Favre's early retirement in March and his subsequent reversal that caused so much upheaval. Strahan said Favre should have done the same thing. There's also an interesting nugget about what Favre's dad, Irvin, might have told him had he still been alive today. Brett said Irvin Favre would have told him to keep playing ... in Green Bay. ...
