Adding the winner of a U.S. prime-time Emmy to the adaptation of a British TV series that won a top International Emmy sounds like the recipe for a future prime-time Emmy sweeper, eh? Brit hit crime show "Life on Mars" won the International Emmy for best drama series in 2006. Emmy champ David E. Kelley was to adapt it for the American market but. was bounced from the project. The trio that ran the less-than-stellar "October Road" have taken over the show and begun making changes to "Life on Mars." The avant-garde series still stars Jason O'Mara as a cop, almost killed by a car, who imagines himself back in 1973 while in a coma. Joining the cast as one of his less-than-politically correct police colleagues is Emmy winner Michael Imperioli, who was on the wrong side of the law for six seasons on "The Sopranos." Many Emmy-winning TV classics have been based upon hit British TV series, including "The Office" and "All in the Family." (Photo: ATAS / Video: BBC) ...

Just one night after her big Vicky Cristina Barcelona premiere in LA , Penelope Cruz was in another long black dress for the Elegy screening in NYC last night. She left the rest of her gorgeous costars, including Javier, behind for this one, but had plenty of glamorous party friends. Peter Sarsgaard had his costar and friend Patricia Clarkson filling in while Maggie was elsewhere. Love me some Gerard Butler, but he could use a little word on those red carpet poses. This looks like another intense one from Miss Cruz, though considering her other release this summer involves a love scene with Scarlett, I'm guessing whatever happens on the big screen with Ben Kingsley in this movie won't be making as many headlines. To see more from the premiere, including Alan Cumming, Eva Amurri, Michael Imperioli, Zoe Kravitz, and others, just read more ...

There is no more David E. Kelley, but there is an ex-mafia guy on ABC's new series "Life on Mars." Michael Imperioli, who played Christopher Moltisanti in the hit HBO series "The Sopranos," has joined the cast of "Life on Mars" as Detective Ray Carling, a man who feels that the present-day cop-trapped-in-the-1970s Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) took a job that was supposed to be his. The show, which is based on a BBC series that starred "Doctor Who's" John Simm, also stars Rachelle Lefevre and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's" Colm Meaney. The original pilot, which if shown will probably contain some reshoots and re-editing, was directed by Kelley -- best known for "Ally McBeal" and "Boston Legal" -- but it will not be run by Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg, who worked ... ...

Sopranos star Michael Imperioli has put an end to rumors a big-screen version of the hit show is in the works. "I've heard a lot of rumors, but the last thing I heard David saying was that it wasn't happening," Michael said, referring to Sopranos creator David Chase. "I'd be surprised if it did because David never did stuff just for the sake of it," he continues. "I think he found a way to close the story." Michael, who now plays a hard-boiled detective on ABC's upcoming drama Life on Mars, set in the 1970s, said he loved the cryptic Sopranos finale. "I thought it was perfect," he said adding that the show is still "part of my life" and that he sees the cast "from time to time." ...

Every other Wednesday on BuzzSugar, I post a Recast challenge , where I ask you to choose new actors for a classic TV show or movie. The reader who submits the best cast wins a BuzzSugar t-shirt! I'm so relieved to know I wasn't alone in my nerd-love for Wings and you all came up with some great new casts for this show I secretly loved for years. I could tell you guys were having fun thinking up which actors could look like brothers. alynn went the logical route and cast real-life brothers Luke and Owen Wilson. I also thought leeluvfashion was right on with her casting of Michael Vartan and Paul Walker as brothers — they totally look like they could have the same DNA. As for Helen, I liked fatatiecat07 's idea for Reese Witherspoon, as she completely embodies the spunky spirit of that character. daisydidi 's idea for Michael Imperioli to play Antonio Scarpacci is awesome, though after so many years on the Sopranos I still see him as more scary than snuggly. In the end, I just had to choose the recast with the most adorable combo of two small-screen actors as the main brothers. Congrats to Chibbie ! To see who Chibbie chose, along with a new cast photo, read more ...

That intriguing - and definitely mysterious - new ABC Thursday drama, "Life on Mars," has finally - FINALLY - started production in NYC, but just a little while ago, ABC sent out the fullest show description I've seen so far. Why "intriguing?" Well...it's based on a Brithit; has David Kelley DNA; has an all-star case (Jason O'Mara, Harvey Keitel and Michael Imperioli), and it's filmed in Gotham. Here's what ABC's saying: "NYPD Detective Sam Tyler (Jason O’Mara) finds himself in 1973 in the cultural hotbed of New York City during the tumultuous times of the Vietnam War, Watergate, women’s lib and the civil and gay rights movements [and he] feels like he is on a different planet [and] clashes with his new boss at the 125th Precinct, the irascible Lieutenant Gene Hunt (Harvey Keitel )...Other squad members of the 1-2-5 include Detective Ray Carling (Michael Imperioli ), a big, mean guy in a street-fight with life. Ray may be a rough, tough sexist, but he's a handy guy to have in your corner. Annie Norris (Gretchen Mol) is a member of the Police Women’s Bureau. At a time when females were only allowed to do menial tasks and not real police work, she’s the smartest person in the room...In his 2008 life, Sam was in love with Maya Daniels (Lisa Bonet) and, although Maya and Annie will never meet, Annie’s workplace battles have paved the way for Maya to become a full-fledged cop...Love triangle evolves between Sam’s “real” in-the-moment f ...

We've been banging on about Life On Mars USA for a while now, charting its ups and almost catastrophic downs (for all our Life On Mars stuff go here ). The full cast pictures have been released, and, by jimminy, I think that they (they being ABC) have got it just right. It looks really very cool indeed. If there's one immediate difference to the pics of the original cast (that was shelved) it's that everything looks a lot less brown. And you have to love Michael Imperioli's imperial 'tache. I love it. I really do. Click on the picture for a full cast gallery (thanks to The Medium Is Not Enough ). ...
