THE MOVIE: 3 1/2 stars out of 5 I did not see this film in the theaters and judging by the critical reaction this film received when it was released to theaters, I wasn’t expecting much here when I started to view this release. However, as is often the case, the mass of critical thought on this film was way off base. Is it as good as Hot Fuzz or Shawn of the Dead? No, but it is darn funny in its own right. The movie was filmed in London and was directed by David Schwimmer and written by Michael Ian Black and Simon Pegg. The film stars Simon Pegg as Dennis, your average slightly overweight, heavy smoking out of shape and nearly broke bloke who is afraid of commitment. The films opens with him running away from the alter on his wedding day scared to death, leaving his girlfriend, Libby (Thandie Newton), who is several months pregnant, shall we say, holding the bag? The film then moves forward 5 years and finds Dennis alone and nearly broke and Libby seeing Whit (Hank Azaria) a wealthy hedge fund manager in London who is thinking of proposing to her, all of which gets Dennis quite upset and sparks his desire of resuming his relationship with Libby who he still loves. When Dennis meets Whit and finds out that he wants to run and finish the London marathon, Dennis figures he can win back Libby by training for and finishing the race himself, showing himself as no longer being afraid of commitment and being a changed man.
