Troy Dell — who suffered serious burns in a May 19, 2007 Meth lab explosion — was booked into the Branch County Jail Tuesday night on three felony charges relating the Noble Township fire. Dell, 29, told Branch County Magistrate Brent Weigle he essentially was homeless “living out of my car.” Both Dell and Layman Hughes were in critical condition when they were flown to the Bronson Methodist Hospital burn unit after running from the flaming trailer. Rescue personnel said flesh was falling off Dell at the scene from burns, and his scars are visible. Dell told law enforcement officials that Hughes “mixed the wrong chemicals together” in Dell’s trailer at 1085 Trayer Road but Hughes said Dell was “doing the cooking” when the flash explosion sent hazardous residue over 500 feet. Hazmat teams were called in for the clean0up. Dell will face charges of operation of a hazardous lab, and operation of a lab within 500 feet of a residence, both 20-year felonies.
