One of the first things you will need to do is decide on how high you want to set your discrimination setting to. The discrimination settings are the settings on your Metal Detector that decide whether or not to register something based on what the sensors tell it. The lower the settings, the more frequently it will find things, the higher, the less things youll find. You might think that the best thing to do is set your discrimination all the way zero will get you less bottle caps and more silver, and gold, but that may not be the best idea. Countless beginners over react and set their setting too sensitive, and lose out. It is a really good idea to keep the settings to zero, or have full Metal detection on. Basically, you will be listening to all Metal tones in this setting. So the key is, learning to discern a good or semi-good tone from all the target tones. Despite this having been promised for yesterday, today I will get on with a pictorial description of my West Bank travels. Today we're up to Bethlehem, or Beit Lehem, which has a lot of significance you are likely aware of--Jesus' birth, etc. To get to Bethlehem, we went through our first checkpoint, being dropped off outside by our bus. A "checkpoint" is actually a really big cage, or a maze of cages. First you go through the cage leading up to a rotating Metal cage door--this Flickr photo shows it well (I have some photos from another checkpoint you'll see on the Ramallah post)--and then you go through another rotating door and then Metal Detector anrd show your pass, permit or passport, and then through another cage door, and then at the Bethlehem checkpoint, through more cages until you're outside, and you see this, which honestly is enough to make you feel a bit cynical. Or to make me feel cynical. Anyway, then we got a taxi and went to the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, built on the point where Jesus is said to have been born, and also where there was a seige in 2002.
