Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes is one step closer to stepping into the cage at least one more time before his hall of fame career concludes. I like to read fighter blogs after a major UFC event. I like to see what the professionals thought about the the PPV. Matt Hughes had some back handed compliments for GSP, and a criticism of his physique. The last fight of the night was Georges and Fitch. Georges didn’t look as big as he has [...] ...

From Matt Hughes blog - "Went to the doctor yesterday, he performed quite a few tests on my knee. With the results of the tests on my knee and from what I have told him, he definitely thinks the MCL and the PCL is rebuilding itself. The next time I go back up there, in a month to a month and a half, I will get an MRI and that way he can get a picture of the knee and he can see better what's going on. So right now, I'm going to work out lightly, try and build up my quadricep as much as I can. Do nothing with the hamstring really, from what he said and he says possibly being able to fight in 6-7 months." Hopefully Matt will take all the time he needs to recover since no matter how you feel about him no one wants to see him end his career looking like he did against Thiago Alves. The most disturbing part of the blog entry is the pictures of Matt sporting not only jorts but crocs.  The safe full of guns helps but not what I think of when I think future UFC Hall of Famer...  via www.Matt-Hughes.com ...

The last fight of the night was Georges [St. Pierre] and [Jon] Fitch . Georges didn’t look as big as he has before and he seemed like he had gotten tired from the first round. Fitch had the game plan of countering Georges and you just can’t do that. You can’t counter a quicker fighter. To be honest, halfway in the third round I got up and walked out of the arena and went to my hotel. The fight wasn’t the most exciting and I wanted to get out of there before everyone else was getting up to leave. -- Matt Hughes , talking about his UFC 87 experience on his personal blog. (For what it's worth, he did pick GSP to win in the previous post .) ...

While I respected Matt Hughes for his incredible run as UFC champ I never liked him and he's certainly doing nothing to change that. Its one thing to talk a little trash about an upcoming opponent or a fighter you've beaten even, IMO its utterly disgraceful to talk smack about a fighter who has soundly beaten you so badly that there's NO interest in a fourth Matt Hughes/GSP match. There's a phrase for what Matt Hughes is now: sore loser. From a MMA Shoot interview with Hughes: HT Steve Cofield . As a bonus, in the extended entry there's an animated gif of GSP pulling an absolutely brilliant sweep, the kind of move I doubt Matt Hughes could even diagram much less execute. This brilliant sweep reversal is something you'd never see Matt Hughes do in a million years. This is an incredible move, watch how GSP climbs down Fitch's limbs to escape bottom position and then get the takedown, all in one smoothly executed and clearly rehearsed move.   ...

Written by bfowlkes Props: Yahoo’s Steve Cofield) As we told you earlier this week, Matt Hughes was not at all impressed with Georges St. Pierre at UFC 87. His blog post about how boring he found the GSP-Fitch fight seemed laced with no small amount of jealousy. That’s somewhat understandable. A guy beats your ass... Original story at Cage Potato . ---Quote--- Audra and I went up to the UFC in Minneapolis with two other couples: my father-in-law and his wife, Barbara, was one couple; the other couple was Jeff and Tisha. My father-in-law and Barbara have been to many UFCs, but this was the first for Jeff and Tisha. To be honest, I get extremely bored at these UFCs but it was kind of fun having Jeff and Tisha there as I helped them get pictures. Tisha got a picture with Rampage and Dana White. Jeff got his picture with the ringcard girls and Wanderlei. In front of me was Dana White and Lorenzo and some other guys that work for the UFC. They sit right in front of the octagon and they have several TVs in front of them that show exactly what is on Pay Per View. So a couple of times, I got to see Jeff and Tisha’s face on PPV and they also got some texts from their kids saying that they saw them on TV. So that was kind of fun, I went there really to watch one fight, probably not the one you’re expecting. I went there to watch Brock Lesnar. He is so interesting because he is so athletic as well as being so powerful. So that fight went just like I thought it would, Brock took him down whenever he wanted and on the ground he did whatever he wanted. I was also there watching my buddy, Roger, but he didn’t quite look the same. I don’t think him or Kenny fought their best fight on Saturday. Roger looked to have done a few things different and I would say that he needs to go back to what he w ...
