The BIG EAST Conference announced today the University of Cincinnati's conference opponents and game sites for the upcoming 2008-09 season. For the second year, the BIG EAST will be playing an 18-game league schedule. The format has schools playing each opponent at least once and three teams twice. The process started last season with a clean slate regarding where each team's single-game series would be played. This year, the 12 single-game sites were predetermined under the league policy that the site would be reversed if an opponent was played once last year and once this season. ... Just left manager Ron Washington's office. Had a lively afternoon conversation mostly about the state of the Rangers starting rotation. Gotta say this: For a guy who could be starting four first-year starters against the AL West leaders this coming Monday, he looked remarkably chipper. Hey, what else can you do? The rotation is beaten up and, well, it was never expected to be one of the league's strongest anyway. Here's what you need to know. Eric Hurley (hamstring) and Vicente Padilla (neck) are very questionable for the Tuesday-Wednesday starts against the Angels. Padilla's neck was still sore today. He will try to throw a bullpen tomorrow, but if that doesn't go well, don't expect to see him this week. If Padilla can't start, one option the club is considering: Move Hurley back to Wednesday to give him an extra day of rest and call up. ... wait for it ... Matt Harrison. So, it's possible the Rangers rotation against the Angels would be: Luis Mendoza (making his seventh career major league start) against Ervin Santana on Monday; Matt Harrison (making his major league debut) against Joe Saunders on Tuesday; Eric Hurley (making his fifth career start) vs. Jered Weaver on Wednesday; and Scott Feldman (making his 14th career start) vs. John Lackey Thursday. And if Hurley can't go? Well, good luck with that. ... Source: www.betus.com --- 9 days ago

Notre Dame, West Virginia and South Florida are the three Big East teams that Louisville will play twice during the 2008-09 season, the conference announced today . U of L's league home schedule outside of the mirror games includes tilts against Connecticut, Marquette, Pittsburgh, Depaul, Providence and Seton Hall (hey Bobby). The Cards will face Georgetown, Syracuse, Villanova, Cincinnati, Rutgers and St. John's on the road. The dates for all of these games will be announced at a later time. My first impression is that I'm really surprised we're not seeing a UConn/U of L home-and-home, since those teams figure to be one and two when the coaches' preseason poll is released. I figured we'd see the Cards doubling up against the Huskies, Marquette for rivalry purpose, and then someone predicted to finish near the bottom of the standings like USF. As it is, U of L gets two games against a Notre Dame team that returns all but one player from a squad that finished third in the league a year ago, a West Virginia team that will definitely be hurt by the departure of Joe Alexander, but which brings back a solid core of players and brings in perhaps the best recruiting class in school history, and a South Florida squad which, well, appears to be the worst team in the league once again. I'm disappointed that we're not getting a series with a traditional rival like Marquette or Cincinnati, but I suppose the league is attempting to push the bu ...
