The Sun 's article "Neighborhood sees $1.3 billion lifeline" (June 27) makes the obvious argument that the construction of a Red Line through West Baltimore would help revitalize the suffering neighborhoods in the area. This is indeed a noble goal worth achieving. ...

W hen gas prices were clunking along in the low 3-buck-something range, Mass Transit didn't seem nearly as interesting as it does now. For the vast majority of us, the idea of sharing the commuting experience with strangers was as remote as planting our own tofu trees. ...

Boarding at: Hey It’s That Cute Pregnant Girl. Arriving at: OMG, What the Christ is Going On, BC. The Ruins: Passenger names: Virile, Attractive [...] ...

Daily traffic on U.S. 43 could more than double during construction of the ThyssenKrupp AG steel plant, if all the workers drive their own cars. With gasoline at $4 per gallon, making the 40-mile round trip each day up U.S.... ...

Here is the link to the story that ran in Sunday the 6th's Post and Courier online. Enjoy the comments from the "real" public. I really want to comment but it's proabably not worth it. I am all for this train line (most of which is existing freight line). I am really for it over the proposed I-526 expansion or any additional lanes on I-26. Here's the discussion point.... What can we do as planners and public advocates to counter the paper thin arguments of right wing extremests and how, if any way, could we provide intelligent discussion that cannot be poked full of holes? This is a sign of the times. Nissan’s North American headquarters is in Nashville. They built a new office building in a suburb (typical). But now, they are pushing for more Mass Transit service. Here’s the blurb in the Tennessean from the real estate developer: Transit service sought Had gasoline prices hit the $4 mark 10 years ago, the [...] ...

keep reading about people reducing their gasoline consumption because of record prices. That Mass Transit is up 15%. That people are carpooling. I figured the roads would be thinned out, that traffic would zip on the highways of New York. ...

It wasn't on the scale of losing M-16 assault rifles or accidentally arming a B-52 bomber with six nuclear-tipped cruise missiles, but the news that Hill Air Force Base lost control of its Mass-Transit and van-pool system still is disturbing. ...

My Daddy used to say: 'If you can't afford the gas, you can't afford the car.' Those words still ring true. If you can't afford the gas, park it, sell it, buy a Bus Pass, Carpool, downsize vehicles, whatever it takes. $2 a gallon gas is gone, maybe forever. The World we knew is going away and Mass Transit is in our future, like it or not. ...

Norm Leahy insists that Mass Transit is really a Mass transfer of wealth from the vast majority, drivers, to a small minority, riders. The damning truth, which he pulls from a peice by Sam Staley is that Only about one third of Transit’s revenues come from customer fares. The remainder comes from taxes and federal grants [...] ...
