County officials say the project is a good long-term investment for county. For a growing contingent of York residents, initial confusion over the county's move to locate a new library branch at the now-troubled Marquis shopping center development has been replaced by an increasingly vocal desire to have the plan undone. ...

Modern dancer Marquis Cunningham, 18, from New Jersey, and the ever-sexy Susie Garcia, 25, from Florida, were eliminated in last week’s elimination show for "“So You Think You Can Dance”." The New York Post caught up with the former contestants to find out how they felt about being axed from the program so early on in the game. Here'’s what Marquis had to say about his time on "SYTYCD": “ All of us, as performers and artists, we get a little nervous, and I have danced in front of crowds such as that before and have had that experience of performing in front of an audience. “I was nervous so much as for my partner and I and the routine and just trying to remember everything. But once that music comes on, and once the audience starts going, it’s like the icing on the cake. It just... it levels everything out. And you just know that it’'ll be okay because of all the hard work and determination and stress and time that you’'ve put into the routine... “To tell you the truth, I was surprised. I wasn'’t expecting to go home last night, and I wasn’'t expecting to home this early. I wasn’'t even expecting to win, but I definitely wanted to go even further than what I did. I was a little taken aback.” ...

A bland salsa from the woman who was supposed to be best at it and her hapless partner meant the end for Susie Garcia, 25, and her young partner Marquis Cunningham, 18 on "So You Think You Can Dance" Thursday. While the two dazzled judges (and apparently voters) last week with a waltz, they were on the odds this week from judges like Mary Murphy, who claimed "I've seen more chemistry in high school chemistry 101." Judge Mia Michaels said that for Marquis "everything was over exaggerated" and from Susie "I wanted to see more." And judge Nigel Lythgote didn't like it any better though what he said was sort of nonsensical: "The Cuban and Puerto Rican fire brigade had put you out before you came out, I'm afraid." The loss of two dancers who happened to be coupled together meant that for the second week in a row, the rest of the couples didn't have to be switched around. And if both the elminated dancers were from Florida, that state's plight was offset by a guest performance from rapper FLo Rida, though his performance was about as li- synched as they come. After the Top 12 competes next week, they'll be down to their Top 10.   ...

I'm not sure why Marquis was kept under wraps but as someone who has seen him dance for years, I hope viewers will give him a chance. Marquis is from the Robin Dawn Academy in Cape Coral, Florida. He has won all kinds of titles over the years - I think he currently holds the Mr. Dance from Dance Masters of America but he's not simply a competition boy. He also has a terrific voice and a wonderfully engaging acting personality. As has already been mentioned, he appeared briefly in Dance Wars, making the cut first in New York but being cut right away from that in LA (which was really a blessing considering how bad that show ended up being!). He was the other Marquis. Marquis lights up a room when he walks into it but the thing I've always admired about him, besides his dancing, is that he always had time for the little kids at the studio. When Marquis dances, everyone runs to watch him. He is just magnificent. I'll admit I'm biased and I could list titles and shows he has starred in and go on and on but hopefully America will soon see for themselves. I've never started a topic but everyone needs a thread. And I've been racking my brains as to what to call it so if someone thinks of something better, I'm all for it. But since so few know anything about him - I'll go with the alliteration. ...

I don't understand where Lou is going with Marquis. Everybody knows that Marquis will eventually show his flaws and become the pitcher that he was and is. There are number of bad aspects about him: 1. He is extremely wild, will walk numerous people, and can never throw strikes when he needs to. (31 BB, 41 K) 2. He will give up 3 runs or more every outing. 9 out of his 15 starts, he has given up 3 runs or more. 3. He has mental breakdowns on the field occasional (ex. at San Diego, he walks the pitcher, balks him over, and allows him to score off of his error).   As far as I'm concerned, Rich Harden has to be the Cubs Number 1 Trade Target. No, it's not C.C. because there's no point in giving up prospects in order to have him for 2-3 months at most. Also, Rich Harden is arguably better than Sabathia. Harden's ERA is 2.44, I know he has fewer starts but 5 runs is the most he has given up . Sabathia ERA is 4.06, C.C. has given up 9 runs twice . People will talk about Harden's injury status, and I know that this is a concern, but it's not like C.C. hasn't been injured either. It would also take less prospects to get Harden. I'm not completely positive on this but I think Harden is signed through 2010 with an option in '10. Sabathia is a free agent after this year and I can guarentee that he will not re-sign with the Cubs. The 1-2 combo of Zambrano and Harden is comparable to Webb and Haren I would say. Getting Harden would help out Dem ...

Fairly Useful Google Doc spreadsheet with pitch f/x stats and L/R splits THT Pitch f/x Avgs for comparison PECOTA Card Fangraphs THT Card The one word summarizing Jason Marquis' 4.24 ERA is lucky.  His sinker, which I guess it can be called, is a bad pitch for different reasons against LHB and RHB.  Against lefties, he can't or won't throw it for a strike with any kind of consistency.  I take this to mean he's nibbling and, to some extent, he's been successful.  Lefties aren't hitting for much power off him and it looks like he's been the victim of some seeing-eye singles.  On the other hand, it's undoubtedly costing him bad counts and walks, as fangraphs' split BB graph shows.  Having AJ in the two hole should get Q!, JD and Swish up with a man on base, though AJ might feel obliged to help Marquis out.  If a poor offensive showing forces Thome's pinch hitting skills to be called upon with Marquis in the game, he too should look for the walk. For the righties, the key is staying away from the plus slider.  The change up is entirely a show-me pitch that rarely gets over the plate.  Our lineup is susceptible to the change, but I don't think Marquis' is good enough to be a difference maker.  Getting into good counts and forcing Marquis to bring the fastball over the plate should be doable.  Last time we saw a fastball/slider righty, it was Ian Snell.  Marquis may be smarter than Snell, but his repertoire is not more diverse.  Our 3- ...
