OK, I read the recent post calling for the trade of Teahen and the discussion that followed. I agreed with many of the points presented and disagreed with some as well. The reason that I want to post this is because I feel I represent the average fan. I am not a big stats guy, I still rely mostly on the typical offensive stats of BA, HR, and RBI to judge a players performance. I have wondered many times this year about Mark Teahen and if the Royals should trade him. The guy doesn't hit for much power, his BA isn't much to write home about and he seems to ground out to second base at least a freakin' game! That being said, I believe there is more to a player than his stats. I like to consider the presence the player brings to a clubhouse, the willingness to play through pain, and other intangibles that cannot be quantified. Mark Teahen is a guy that has a lot of intangibles. He is the type of player that I would want on my team. He plays hard, he runs the bases well (and no one can tell me that doesn't matter), he doesn't complain, and he can provide guidance for younger players. Simply put, the guy is a ball player. With the possible price tag o f $3 million next year, I think Teahen would be worth the money for the service he can provide. Yes, the Royals need another power bat at the corner outfield position and I don't see this team being competitive with Teahen as a STARTER. But as a backup, the guy is almost invaluable. He can ...

The Cleveland Indians probably wish the rain had never stopped. After a 2-hour, 14-minute delay to start the first game, Kansas City's Mark Teahen got five of the Royals' 31 total hits in a doubleheader sweep over the Indians on Saturday. Zack Greinke combined with two pitchers on a three-hitter, Mike Aviles hit a three-run homer and the Kansas City Royals routed Seattle 12-0 on Thursday to complete their first four-game sweep of the Mariners in 19 years. Kansas City led 9-0 after four innings, roughing up Ryan Feierabend (1-4) on its way to its first four-game sweep of the Mariners since Aug. 17-20, 1989, in Seattle. It was the Royals' first four-game sweep of anyone since taking a home series against Detroit from Sept. 19-21, 2005. Kansas City had at least 10 hits (13) for the sixth time during a seven-game winning streak, its longest since opening the 2003 season 9-0. Alberto Callaspo and Alex Gordon drove in two runs apiece, and Mark Teahen had two of his three hits in Kansas City's five-run fourth inning. ... Source: www.kansas.com --- 23 days ago
Now the Royals are just showing off. That’s how it looks, anyway, after they extended their winning streak to seven games Thursday afternoon with a 12-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners at Kauffman Stadium. Heck, the Royals began clearing their bench in the fifth inning — the fifth — by sending up three pinch hitters. They used two more pinch hitters in the sixth. Let those stat gurus at Elias try to determine the last time that happened. “It’s nice to have this little stretch,” said right fielder Mark Teahen, who had three of the Royals’ 13 hits — including two in a five-run fourth inning. “We’ve been saying all year that it’s important to take a step in the right direction. Hopefully, this little streak puts us in position to look back on this year as a step in the right direction.” ... Source: www.myrtlebeachonline.com --- 30 days ago
David DeJesus' run-scoring single in the top of the 10th inning proved to be the game-winner as the Royals avoided a three-game sweep to the playoff-contending Minnesota Twins with a 3-2 victory. In KC's final at-bat, Mark Teahen and Alberto Callaspo poked consecutive one- out singles off Matt Guerrier to put runners at the corners for DeJesus, who lined Dennys Reyes' first pitch into right field to score Teahen. Joakim Soria threw a 1-2-3 home half to close out his 36th save of the year. ... Source: www.royalsreview.com --- 6 days ago
Nice article in the star today about GMDM. I found a couple of things interesting. #1 being we don't have the payroll flexibility like we have had the last 2 years. Dayton sounded like we wouldn't be trying to sign any of the big name free agents. So those of you who were hoping for Dunn, doesn't sound like its going to happen. Also Dayton said " looking at it (the free agent market) right now, I think we'd probably be looking more at trying to do those things through trades." Hello Andrew Jones. He also mentions that alot of our players can play multiple positions so that gives him more options when thinking about acquiring a player. Lastly, GMDM says the royals are going to give up on Teahen, " we still have a lot of faith in Mark as a player." So it sounds like Mark will be back. Hopefully as a utility player. Lots of interesting stuff to talk about here. Glad to read something Royals related. ...
