Mark Dean Schwab was convicted of kidnapping, raping and killing an 11-year-old boy. Today, Schwab was put to death by lethal injection at 6:15 p.m. The execution was the initial test of Florida's new lethal injection procedure, which was instituted after Angel Diaz died in December 2006. Needles to inject the deadly chemicals into Diaz missed their Mark and he suffered burns and extreme pain. Schwab, 39, unsuccessfully challenged Florida's new execution procedure, claiming it could also cause pain and suffering. He was executed for the 1991 death of Junny Rios-Martinez of Cocoa. Outside the prison where the execution took place, the boy's family clapped and cheered when they heard the news that Schwab had died. No execution is complete without death penalty opponents standing by, but to give them credit, they left the family alone and simply had a prayer vigil. I am not sure Schwab, after committing such a heinous crime deserved their prayers, but they did not interfere with the family who wore white T-shirts with his picture on the front and with the words "JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED" across the back. I have always been ambivalent about the state executions and I used to be against them very firmly, but as the years go by and I have seen some of the most horrendous crimes being committed, I have come to believe that an eye for an eye is entirely appropriate. I still think the state shouldn't do it but the perpetrator afte ... Source: twitter.com --- 106 days ago

After years of waiting, Mark Dean Schwab can go home. Perhaps not the home he'd hoped for- he was after all condemned to spend the rest of his life in prison- with a chance that his death sentence would be forever halted and he's spend the remander of his time in a general population cell block, or the chance that Florida would actually get around to granting the family of his victim the closure of knowing that he'd been excuted. Schwab, after losing his case in which he claimed that Florida's new method of carrying out the death penatly "could also cause pain and suffering", died 12 short minutes after the procedure was started. Schwab was given a stay of execution by the U.S. Supreme Court in November as it considered the constitutionality of Kentucky's lethal injection procedure. When it ruled Kentucky's protocol was acceptable, it opened the door for Florida and other states with similar laws to resume executions. He'd been convicted and sentenced to death for the rape and murder of an 11 year old boy. He'd been out of prison around month, after serving time for raping a 13 year old boy. Schwab had seen Junny Rios-Martinez's photo in a newspaper, for winning a contest in kite flying. When questioned, he'd alleged that another man had forced him to rape and kidnap the boy. ``I only wish my son had passed this peacefully,'' Junny's mother, Vicki Rios-Martinez said afterward. She and her husband were among 40 witnesses to the executio ... Source: flagranny2.wordpress.com --- 90 days ago
June 29, 2008 Sun-Sentinel Sarah Lundy|Sentinel Staff Writer Is lethal injection cruel and unjust punishment? I personally can’t even consider that the criminal/murderer would think they would have that right, a right they never gave their victim. After he lead them to the body his only comment was if he could get something from Burger King to eat and [...] ... Source: missingchildprevention.wordpress.com --- 106 days ago

In its first execution for eighteen months the State of Florida executed Mark Dean Schwab for the 1991 child rape and murder of 11-year-old Junny Rios-Martinez. You what pisses me of so much? That this undeniable guilty piece of human garbage sought to save his sorry ass through a last minute appeal to the Supreme Court on the grounds that Florida had bungled so many executions that his sentence should not be carried out on the grounds of cruel and unusual punishment. Face it like a man? Not this guy. There is nothing I can find on the internet to indicate that this dirtbag showed any remorse for his heinous crime. That's what makes me so sick to my stomach. May The Lord have mercy on his soul? I sure hope not in his case. ... Source: www.nodeathpenalty.eu --- 105 days ago
