CORAL GABLES _ Coach Randy Shannon said defensive tackle Antonio Dixon was not dehydrated, but rather a bout with hyperventilation. Dixon has yet to be released from the hospital, but is expected to later this afternoon. Although unlikely, Shannon said there is a small chance he could practice in today's second session. A few thoughts: -Dixon was among the several players who missed practice. The most notable were linebacker Arthur Brown and defensive tackle Marcus Forston. Brown appeared to be limping during the opening moments of practice, and Shannon said Forston was held out because he wants to monitor some of the heavier players because of the heat. - Shannon used the familiar "flyin' around" to describe freshman defensive tackle Micanor Regis. He has impressed so much the coach said he would receive playing time if the season started today. He expects Regis to play maybe 25 snaps a game. -Freshman Ramon Buchanan, who played linebacker in high school, said he came to UM with intentions of moving to safety. He has split time between free and strong safety. "It's a little bit different," Buchanan said. "Safety, you've got to watch everything. Linebacker, you have to watch like a triangle, just the backfield." -Freshman kicker Jake Wieclaw said he benefited from Wednesday's practice at Dolphin Stadium. The kickers were allowed to get a feel for the playing on the baseball infields. Even though Matt Bosher appears the front runne ... Source: cowboysblog.dallasnews.com --- 6 days ago
Since Timmy Mac is on his 17th different roster prognostication, I figured I'd come up with my first ... QB (2) - Tony Romo, Brad Johnson Comment: Injuries at wide receiver take away the chance to carry a third quarterback, at least for the first week. RB (4) - Marion Barber, Felix Jones, Tashard Choice, Deon Anderson Comment: Pretty well set here, but I can see a fullback and tailback on the practice squad. WR - (6) Terrell Owens, Patrick Crayton, Sam Hurd, Miles Austin, Isaiah Stanback, Mike Jefferson Comment: I feel the least confident on this projection. I'm not sure Stanback will make it through the season because of the shoulder injury and Jefferson is an early-season fix. I apologize to the Danny Amendola fans. TE (3) - Jason Witten, Martellus Bennett, Tony Curtis Comment: Bennett needs to continue his improvement and realize it gets tougher when the games are for real. OL (10) - Flozell Adams, Kyle Kosier, Andre Gurode, Leonard Davis, Marc Colombo, Montrae Holland, Cory Procter, Joe Berger, Doug Free, Pat McQuistan Comment: Before the Holland trade, I thought nine offensive linemen. There's too much upside on the younger players to give up on now, but James Marten's chances don't look too good. DL (6) - Chris Canty, Jay Ratliff, Marcus Spears, Jason Hatcher, Tank Johnson, Stephen Bowen Comment: Solid group all around and versatile. I can see Marcus Dixon on the practice squad. We're just hours away from the Cowboys' releasing the final cuts. So let's vote on who we think has a shot at the final 53. 1. Danny Amendola. Yes or No? 2. Mike Jefferson. Yes or No? 3. James Marten. Yes or No? Or Heck no? 4. Alonzo Coleman. Yes or No? 5. Keon Lattimore. Yes or No? Or you better keep him before Ray Lewis gets ya. 6. Todd Lowber. Yes or No? 7. Marcus Dixon. Yes or No? 8. Tearrius George. Yes or No? 9. Dowayne Davis. Yes or No? 10. Erik Walden. Yes or No? Now, it's fair to say Amendola and Jefferson will probably be here because of the Cowboys' injury situation at wide receiver. Davis and Walden played well on special teams, so they have a shot. Dixon played one pre-season game due to injury, but do the Cowboys like his potential? James Marten has not lived up to the hype. Well, what little hype there is. ... Ok, here's my 53-man roster with some practice squad guys. QB Tony Romo Brad Johnson Comment: Richard Bartel will get cut and he deserves another year on the practice squad. RB Marion Barber Felix Jones Tashard Choice Comment: Choice is a solid No. 3. FB Deon Anderson Comment: Keon Lattimore or Julius Crosslin could stay on the practice squad. TE Jason Witten Tony Curtis Martellus Bennett Comment: Rodney Hannah needed to play well on all special teams units to make the 53. WR Terrell Owens Patrick Crayton Sam Hurd Miles Austin Isaiah Stanback Mike Jefferson Comment: Expect the Cowboys to sign a wide receiver in place of Jefferson and then put him on the practice squad. OL LT Flozell Adams LG Kyle Kosier C Andre Gurode RG Leonard Davis RT Marc Colombo T/G Pat McQuistan G Montrae Holland T/G Doug Free G/C Cory Procter G Joe Berger Comment: James Marten will be sent home. DL Chris Canty Jay Ratliff Marcus Spears Tank Johnson Jason Hatcher Stephen Bowen Comment: Will the Cowboys try to bring back Marcus Dixon to the practice squad? ILB Bradie James Zach Thomas Kevin Burnett Bobby Carpenter Comment: Carpenter proved himself this training camp. OLB DeMarcus Ware Greg Ellis Anthony Spencer Justin Rogers Comment: Erik Walden is on the bubble and he didn't make it. Well, I didn't see a whole lot of exciting stuff during this afternoon's practice in the indoor facility, but Wade Phillips sure was fired up about it. "We had probably our best practice of the year so far!" Wade beamed. The Cowboys are getting into their regular-season routine, meaning they worked on specific stuff for this week's game. After all, the Governor's Cup is a great source of pride. No way do the Cowboys plan on letting those sorry Houstonians celebrate during their last trip to Texas Stadium. And, golly, Wade sure was proud of the focus and concentration the Cowboys showed today. Follow the jump for a few details of stuff that I could actually see. *OK, first a disclaimer: The media couldn't see a whole bunch of practice because the offensive guys who aren't in usually stand behind the play. And it's hard to see around those offensive linemen. *Here are the guys who sat out other than Roy Williams , who participated in some stuff: FB Ronnie Cruz (shoulder), WR Miles Austin (knee), CB Quincy Butler (hamstring), S Tyler Everett (back), CB Terence Newman (groin), LB Kevin Burnett (knee), LB Anthony Spencer (knee) and DE Marcus Dixon (back). *I can't see any way TE Rodney Hannah cracks the 53-man roster, but he followed up a good preseason game (four catches, 52 yards) by making a couple impressive catches during this practice. The best was on a seam route on which he made a smooth adjustment to catch a ball on his back ... Source: cowboysblog.dallasnews.com --- 23 days ago
Weather: 65 degrees and cloudy. Wade Phillips insisted yesterday that this would not be a walkthrough. It'll be a real, live, no-pads practice that only lasts about an hour. If you've got any questions, fire away. If the Cowboys do anything interesting, I'll fill you in. All that and more after the jump. 12:44 -- CB Terence Newman (groin) will work out off to the side again. Same with DE Marcus Dixon (back). We'll let you know what's up with OLB Anthony Spencer (knee) as soon as we know something. 12:47 -- No Anthony Spencer sighting yet. We'll learn the results from his MRI yesterday at some point, probably right after practice, and pass on that info. The Cowboys thought yesterday Spencer had a bone bruise and no structural problems. 12:51 -- Stretching just started. ... Not sure that, aside from QB, the Cowboys will make a roster addition before the season. They don't have any glaring roster needs. Of course, those decisions depend in large part on which players hit the waiver wire. 12:55 -- T.O. signed several autographs before practice. When he stopped, the lady who was next in line responded by uttering a profanity at him. No good deed goes unpunished. 12:57 -- Stretching just ended. Defense doing pursuit drills, offense running plays vs. air. ... You can't really say that the offense or defense consistently had the upper hand in Oxnard. Both units had their days. ... The Cowboys are working on sets featuring Felix Jones and ... Source: cowboysblog.dallasnews.com --- 4 days ago

Some surprises among the Cowboys' final decisions: most notably keeping 11 offensive linemen and 11 defensive backs. What it might mean is they are setting up a trade possibility over the next day or so. Anyway, here are the cuts: QB Richard Bartel, WR Mark Bradford, WR Todd Lowber, WR Danny Amendola, WR Mike Jefferson, TE Rodney Hannah, TE Drew Atchison, RB Alonzo Coleman, RB Keon Lattimore, FB Julius Crosslin, C Ryan Gibbons, OT Cory Lekkerkerker, DE Marcus Smith, DE Marcus Dixon, NT Junior Siavii, NT Remi Ayodele, LB Darrell Robertson, LB Erik Walden, LB Tyson Smith, LB Tearrius George, S Dowayne Davis. Tank Johnson never really liked No. 66, so the nose tackle has switched to No. 95. He wore No. 99 when he was with the Bears. Marcus Dixon, who had No. 95 during the preseason, will wear No. 92 now that he is on the practice squad. Newly-acquired guard Montrae Holland will wear No. 64. It will be interesting to see what happens when Keith Davis officially joins the roster. He wore No. 29 during his second tour with the Cowboys, but rookie running back Tashard Choice has it now. Will he ask for No. 29 or go with No. 40, which is what he wore for the Cowboys in 2002? ... Source: www.kentucky.com --- 5 days ago
Quarterback Richard Bartel, who was looking to make the Dallas Cowboys as a third-string quarterback, was among the 21 players released as part of the team's "cut-down day" maneuvers on Saturday. The advancing age of primary backup QB Brad Johnson, who turns 40 on Sept. 13, was seen as a mark in favor of the 25-year-old Bartel making the roster. But the former star at Division II Tarleton State didn't do enough to prove himself during a preseason that saw him compile a 70.2 passer rating, and thus was released. Joining him on the list of cuts were wide receiver Danny Amendola, tight end Drew Atchison, nose tackle Remi Ayodele, wide receiver Mark Bradford, running back Alonzo Coleman, fullback Julius Crosslin, safety Dowayne Davis, defensive end Marcus Dixon, linebacker Tearrius George, tackle Ryan Gibbons, tight end Rodney Hannah, receiver Mike Jefferson, running back Keon Lattimore, tackle Cory Lekkerkerker (waived/injured), receiver Todd Lowber, linebacker Darrell Robertson, nose tackle Junior Siavii, defensive end Marcus Smith, linebacker Tyson Smith and linebacker Erik Walden. Notables among that group include Ayodele, who played in seven games as a member of the Cowboys last season; Lattimore, the younger brother of Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowler Ray Lewis; and Siavii, a former second-round pick of the Chiefs who was attempting to revive his career after two years away from the field. The Cowboys will begin their 2008 slate on ... Source: www.bloggingtheboys.com --- 4 days ago

Last pre-season game helped his cause. http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/08/the-practice-squad.html Like the 53 man roster, I should preface this practice squad as, FOR NOW!!! Dixon, Hannah,Crosslin and Jefferson I like, the rest I dont see making it through the year. Terrius George is on this practice roster because Jerry got cute once again and lost Welden to Kansas City. Very happy we were able to get Hannah back, I liked his progress over the last year. Crosslin is on the practice roster just in case Cricket goes down with an injury. I'd rather have kept Lattimore over Coleman Marcus Dixon is going to benefit greatly in the teams strength and conditioning program. This kid has alot of upside I doubt Amendola or Jefferson will be on the practice squad much longer if we acquire another wide out or if Hurd,Stanback and Austin are back soon. I suspect Bartel will be back unless Dallas signs another backup to the active roster ... Find more results for Marcus Dixon on RSSMicro.com |
