Marc Comeau: Concept Cars = Hot Wheels = Awesomeness
18 days ago

Concept cars range from insanely wacky to wickedly awesome. That’s always been true, but the ones that always appeal to me are those that tend to be styled after Hot Wheels cars. To give you examples, take the following two: Wierd folding concept aside, the BRB Evolution screams Hot Wheels. There are probably a hundred design problems with regards to making it actually functional and road-safe, but wow! The MAG Magnetic concept vehicle boasts advanced technology that would use a magnetized road to propel this thing. Once again though, the packaging speaks volumes. It looks like one of the more futuristic Hot Wheels, but I’m sure you can see the resemblance. Concept cars are supposed to do two things. They’re supposed to show advances and/or possibilities with new technologies, but they’re also supposed to inspire passion. The Dodge Challenger was one concept that didn’t necessarily push any technology envelopes, but wow did it ever inspire passion. I always look forward to new concepts, here’s hoping people keep designing cool ones and don’t spend as much time on some of the weirder, less interesting concepts that are out there. Share This ...

After reflecting upon just what a search engine like Cuil would mean for someone in an SEO role or otherwise involved in search. I’ve had a few thoughts run through my mind, some of which are worth discussion. First of all, being ranked #1 would mean something completely different . If you actually look at a search results page on Cuil, you’ll see that items are organized very differently than traditional engines. There’s no 1-10 listing but rather a grouping of results, left to right, top to bottom. My eye in particular is drawn to the top, centre result. What about yours? What about someone who’s used to reading Hebrew (which reads right to left)? The end result is that we’d likely end up with interesting heat graphs for these search results depending on what group is studied. That would provide some room for catering particular content to rank lower on purpose to hit a hot spot for a particular demographic. Secondly, we would need to start optimizing for keywords again . Quite frankly, I don’t think anyone misses the days of keyword stuffing. A return to this would not only be unpleasant for webmasters, but would also create a scenario where people could “steal” good pages again. While that’s a pretty bleak looking picture, we probably shouldn’t forget that a lot of time has gone by and the individuals involved in this project have a lot of experience in this field. They either already have or will likely come up with a far more cle ...

Well here’s something interesting. Unless you’re on vacation or otherwise out of touch, you’ll have heard of Cuil by now. Cuil is the new “hot” search engine on the block. If you’ve spent any time at all in search circles, you’ll know very well that every six months there’s a new engine that’s going to challenge Google because of this or that. On the one hand Cuil seems no different, but if you think about it, it does have some things going for it that not many of the previous contenders have had. Money - Now that Google’s had it’s successful IPO (and even more successful record since) at a time when investors were hating tech stocks, it’s a little bit easier to drum up some significant investment dollars . Scale - If we can believe that they’ve indexed over 120 billion pages and that at least 50% of that includes some reasonable level of quality, then that’s not only head and shoulders above previous entries, it’s head and shoulders above everyone. Which is why it’s somewhat difficult to believe… Mass Media - They’re talking about it. In a big way. Everyone’s clamoring to be the one who told you about the new cool thing on the web. Ultimately useful or not, it sure does have a lot of people checking in for a peek. Everybody Hates A Winner - Google’s been on top for a long time and people like underdogs. Combine the fact that the word is starting to get out about just what it is that Google does with its data and sprinkle it with the ...

Sean Cullen’s on Last Comic Standing. He’s out there representing Canada and so far has been doing a great job. While lots of people may have seen him before, not everyone knows that he was a member of Corky and the Juice Pigs. Amongst many other wonderful hits, their best one is Eksimo. I love comedic music, but I think Eskimo is the best song of that genre that I’ve ever heard. If you liked it, check out youtube for more Corky and the Juice Pigs. Share This ...

Round 1 Playoffs — Aug. 17 “The season starts today” and “Regular season records are thrown out once the playoffs start,” were just a couple of many sayings by players in the first round of the Ipswich Men’s Over 30 Softball League playoffs, held at Doyon and Grimes fields. By the end of the day, another cliché was put into play — “The more things change the more they stay the same.” Over on Doyon Field, Institution for Savings, with the best record in the regular season, took on Townsend Comeau Oil in the best of three games. Game 1 was a closely pitched game with hits kept at a minimum and Institution for Savings squeaking out a 5-3 win. Rick McDonald limited the T/C crew to seven hits over seven innings, and struck out three for the win. Leading the hitting for the Bankers was Kevin Kirk with two hits. Larry White pitched well in defeat allowing just eight hits. Leading hitters for the T/C crew were Tommy Spinhurn with three hits, and Larry White helping his cause with two hits. In Game 2, the Townsend Comeau bats came to life with 24 hits, out-slugging IFS by a score of 17-6. With T/C down by four runs in the second inning, Pete Rockett cleared the bases with a three-run double and cut the lead by one run. Tommy Spinhurn and Marc Comeau followed suit, knocking in three more runs combined to give Townsend Comeau a 6-4 lead. The Oilers would not look back from there, scoring 11 more runs on their way to a victory and tying up t ...

Offense was in the air Sunday, June 29, for the Ipswich Men’s Over 30 Softball League. Townsend Comeau took on Club 498 on Doyon Field, while Institution for Savings took on Mike & Sons. At day’s end, no significant injuries were reported except for a few bruised egos. On Doyon field, Townsend Comeau and 498 split two games. In Game 1, T/C found their batting stroke on their way to a 25-10 win. Larry White took the wind for Oil drillers while Charlie Michaud took the loss for 498. Big bangers for T/C were Marc Comeau with four hits, Marc Meaney with four hits, along with rookie Steve Murdoch with four hits as well. Everyone else in the lineup had at least two hits. Offensie stats for 498 were not available at press time. However, some nice plays at second base came from Joe Rosenburger for 498. Game 2 saw 498 get revenge with a winning score of 14-7. Brad Hill got the win for 498 while Larry White was unable to duplicate his Game 1 gem and took the loss for T/C. Everyone in the 498 lineup contributed with offense and displayed some fine leather on defense including a nice stop by third baseman Jeff Graffum. Leading T/C in hitting in the second game were Marc Comeau and Mike Dupray with three hits apiece. Over on Grimes Field, Mike & Sons split a pair with Institution for Savings. Game 1 Bankers Dave Wood defeated Mike & Sons Mike Blake by a score of 12-11. IFS co-manager Chris Connolly stated that everyone in the lineup contributed to ...

In a very modest garage at the GM headquarters in Michigan, the production model of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was unceremoniously unveiled by in a Web broadcast on the Web for all to see. Ed Peper, vice president of Chevrolet, said the V-6 version will get a combined estimated 26 miles per gallon and the V-8 version will get 23 mpg. The car comes off the assembly line in February 2009 and goes on sale directly thereafter. After seeing it for yourself, you may have questions for the folks at Chevrolet. If so, you're in luck. The company will conduct three 30-minute web chats on their site Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. EDT (6:30 to 8:00 a.m. PST) with Chevrolet design, engineering and marketing honchos fielding consumer inquires and comments. 2010 Camaro will be built at the company’s Oshawa Car Assembly Plant in Oshawa, Ontario. Heritage-inspired, the Camaro will include advanced technology and an estimated 9.0 L/100 km highway fuel efficiency on V6 models. “The new Chevrolet Camaro delivers the best of both worlds, great heritage and a thoroughly modern, advanced package of sporty driving, comfort and technology,” said Marc Comeau, vice president sales, service and marketing, GM of Canada. “And it does so with styling, fuel economy and value our competitors simply can’t match.” The high-performance Camaro SS is equipped with a 6.2L V-8, with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Sales by General Motors Canada crashed in June while Toyota Canada said its brands set records. In both cases, the companies said consumers showed they want fuel-efficient or green cars. GM still has a large line of pickup trucks, which buyers have been avoiding, while Toyota said its hybrids did very well. GM sales fell 23.8 per cent in June, the company said Wednesday. Truck sales were down 35 per cent, and car sales by almost 12 per cent. The company sold 32,355 vehicles last month, compared with 42,466 in June 2007. Toyota said it sold 22,428 Toyota and Lexus cars and trucks in June, up 8.8 per cent from June 2007. Sales of Toyota hybrid cars rose by 68.6 per cent to 1,391 units while Lexus hybrids were up by 97.9 per cent, with 192 units being sold. “GM Canada's June sales reflected the significant ongoing market impact of rising gas prices and the resulting further consumer shift toward cars and smaller crossovers,” Marc Comeau, vice-president of sales, service and marketing, said in a news release. Year-to-date, GM's sales are down 11.3 per cent, with cars virtually flat and trucks down almost 21 per cent. GM said smaller, fuel-efficient cars such as the Chevrolet Aveo and Pontiac Wave were selling well. The Chevy Impala, Pontiac G6 and Cadillac also did well. Honda Canada's June sales fell two per cent, to 16,518 units, because of a supply shortage of the fuel-efficient Civic and Fit, Jerry Chenkin, executive vice-president, sai ...
