W końcu trzeba walczyć w 38 kolejkach nie licząc meczów pucharowych oraz oczywiście Ligi Mistrzów. Jeśli chodzi jednak o Champions League to czasami wygrana tych prestiżowych rozgrywek wcale nie oznacza, że drużyna jest najlepsza w Europie. Warto zauważyć, że niejednokrotnie w rozgrywkach typowo pucharowych nie zawsze wygrywa najlepsza drużyna. Nie trzeba sięgać pamięcią zbyt daleko - w poprzednim sezonie w finale FA Cup spotkały się drużyny, które nie błyszczały (Portsmouth 8. miejsce w lidze, Cardiff 12. pozycja w Championship). Jeśli przyjrzymy się Lidze Mistrzów bez trudu da się zauważyć podobne zjawisko. Jestem skłonny nawet stwierdzić, że wygrana Champions League nie musi oznaczać wcale , że drużyna jest najlepsza na Starym Kontynencie. Kiedy AC Milan wygrał Ligę Mistrzów rok temu zajął 4. miejsce w Serie A i to ze stratą 36 punktów do pierwszego Interu Mediolan. Z naszym ‘ulubionym’ Liverpoolem jest podobnie. Gdy ostatni raz wygrali w tych elitarnych rozgrywkach zajęli 5 miejsce w lidze z 37 punktami straty do Chelsea. Na szczęście Manchester United nie ma z tym problemu. Gdy popatrzymy na nasze 2 ostatnie europejskie sukcesy to bez wątpienia możemy stwierdzić, że Czerwone Diabły były wtedy najlepszą drużyną na Starym Kontynencie. 1999 - Manchester United Każdy kibic wie co wtedy się wydarzyło - legendar ...
