When we first heard that Microsoft was prepping an ad campaign starring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld I was cautiously optimistic. Gates has a good sense of humor about himself, and Jerry might not be your cup of tea but he can be pretty funny now and again. The first ad has hit TV screens across the nation and... I don't think I even have words for it. I'm assuming they were going for the 'Seinfeldian' commercial about nothing. As you can see from the video above, Jerry is walking through the mall and he sees Bill trying on some shoes at a discount shoe store (it is funny because Gates is so rich, but he has no taste! Ha!). Jerry leaps in and helps him find a pair of shoes. After asking Bill if he showers with his clothes on Bill and Jerry walk out to the parking lot. Jerry wonders if the big minds at Microsoft are working on delicious computers, and Bill shifts his underwear (you read that correctly) to confirm that Microsoft has, in fact, been looking into edible computers. The whole mess ends with a Windows logo. Primary category: Apple : Advertising Read - Comments (8) Copyright Mac Publishing LLC. This feed is for personal non-commercial use only. Do not re-post. Valleywag has pulled a section out of a Kara Swisher interview with Sergey Brin, one of the Google co-founders. When asked if she has tried it, Swisher tells Brin she hasn’t because of a lack of a Mac version. He then tells her “It’s embarrassing.” and “I run it in VMware on my Mac.” You’d think that the founder of the company wouldn’t be reduced to that. It gives me hope that the Mac version is a priority with Sergey waiting for it and “asking about it every day”. He then suggests a matter of months. Just in time for Christmas or Halloween? It’s actually possible to build a development version of Chromium , though I wouldn’t recommend it for anybody not interested in development. It’s a good sign that it’s not too far away. Apple’s slowly been expanding its brick-and-mortar presence in Europe with stores in the UK and Italy, now its first stores in Switzerland—home to the Alps, cheese, chocolate and neutrality —are on the way. The stores were first hinted at by job postings on Apple’s site in February , then later reinforced by the inimitable duo of Oppenheimer and Cook , but now they’re ready to be for reals . The first location, in Geneva’ Rue de Rive, is set to open soon —so soon, in fact, that the usual Apple-logoed facade outside the store read “Bientôt Ouvert”—which, if you don’t speak French, translates to “On our way, suckers.” According to the unparalleled folks at ifoAppleStore, two more stores are on their way in the Confoederatio Helvetica, one in Zurich’s Glattzentrum shopping mall and a third in the same city’s Bahnhofstrasse. I fancy myself pretty good with video, but I'm definitely on the prosumer side of the video-editing equation (I know my way around Final Cut Pro, but I can't make it sit up and beg). Given my meager requirements, I have no need whatsoever for Final Cut Server , Apple's video workflow solution, but that doesn't mean I'm not intrigued by it. Charlie Miller over at O'Reilly has written a great overview of what Final Cut Server is, what it does, and why you might want it (or why you really don't need it but still kind of want to run it on a Mac mini somewhere because, while that wouldn't be practical , it would be awesome --and that's half the fun). Miller doesn't go into too much depth, since this is an overview and all, but he does cover all the big ticket items and answers the most important question: what the heck does a video workflow solution do anyway? Everyone loves virtualization, right? Intel Macs running Windows in an OS X window? That's black magic, my friends, and very powerful magic, at that. There are two great virtualization products out there that most Mac users in the know are aware of: Parallels and VMware Fusion. Both are fine programs, but there is a third program that is sometimes overlooked: VirtualBox by Sun, which we've written about a couple of times . Sun just released version 2 of VirtualBox and they kept my favorite feature intact: the price. VirtualBox is free, so you really have no reason not to try it out (other than being happy with OS X and not needing another operating system in your life). In addition to keeping the low, low price, the fine folks at Sun added some new features : 64 bit guest OS support A revamped UI for Leopard Notifications for new versions And a host of other, far geekier new features like, 'Framework for collecting performance and resource usage data,' and 'Support for VHD disk images.' Say it with me, now: Ooooh. Ahhhhh. Primary category: Software Read - Comments (0) Copyright Mac Publishing LLC. This feed is for personal non-commercial use only. Do not re-post. Creative Suites 1-3 were apparently so good that Adobe simply couldn’t resist putting out a sequel—because every good trilogy needs a fourth movie. I mean, look no further than Indiana Jones or Alien or Lethal Weapon . Okay, maybe not. Anyway, we saw Adobe seed betas of CS4 back in May, and now it’s time for them to come out of their cocoons and emerge into the bright new world. Well, almost time anyway: Adobe’s scheduled a webcast on September 23rd at 9AM ET to introduce CS4—which we imagine will be just as action-packed as the one that they gave for CS3 last year . You can register for the webcast —which, surprise surprise, requires Flash—online for free. I can’t decide if a webcast on CS4 is really the first thing I want to put myself through when I roll out of bed. But duty calls, I suppose. What about you, dear readers? Looking forward to CS4? Couldn’t care less? Somewhere in the middle? If nothing else, it would seem CS3 is due to meet its maker in the near future. I always assumed that in the Star Wars universe, the rebels would be the Mac users, while the giant, lumbering Empire would be reliant on Windows PCs. I guess I was wrong, as Mac Pro Vader clearly demonstrates Apple's alignment with the Dark Side. First seen at the 2007 DragonCon Labor Day Weekend Parade in Atlanta, Mac Pro Vader, whose costume is made almost entirely from the box of a Mac Pro, has been spotted again at the same Parade, this time looking a little worse for wear . I guess all those years of Dark Side of the Force abuse takes its toll on ya. Primary category: Apple : Huh? Read - Comments (0) Copyright Mac Publishing LLC. Filed under: Gaming , Software , iPhone " Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn ..." but not for long. A company called Digital Jokers, in conjunction with a subsidary called Mayhem Studios , is bringing HP Lovecraft's cuddly, horrible, insanity-inspiring Great Old One to the iPhone in the form of a graphical adventure game called Call of Cthulhu: The Darkness Within . It looks like fun, although if the laughable trailer is any indication, they'll need to do some spell checking and additional translation before the game actually goes live. Still, Cthulhu fans will slog through some pretty bad software if it means there's a good Lovecraftian story in the mix. We'll keep an eye on this one -- graphical horror-based adventure on the iPhone done well could make for a good (or should we say evil?) time. Welcome to the Macworld boards. Unfortunately I cannot assist you with your software question, as that is not my area of expertise. What I can say about that is that Apple has never courted the enterprise market and there are quite few business applications that are extremely vertical and therefore only ever going to be available for Windows for the foreseeable future. On the other hand you seem to be discussing a SOHO type of product, so hopefully someone can chime in and provide you with information on alternatives. back40 wrote: I have two final questions. Go easy on me on this one. You are clearly not trolling, so we here are more than happy to provide you with information. back40 wrote: Windows/PC's are hit with a lot of virus because people concentrate on PC's because there are lots of them out there. For the most part they have not targeted Apple. Not understanding the Mac OS that does not tell me that it is not impossible for a virus or hacker to get in. With that said I would like to know is it at all necessary to have a firewall and virus protection for protection of the iMac in case someone does get bored and start sending virus's out for Mac's, or is the OS system designed whereas virus and hackers are not possible? Actually, Windows PCs are hit due to inherent design flaws in the operating system that Microsoft has been progressively patching up over the past decade plus; actually it is more a previous lack of foresight tha ...

I’d like to be in any of the bran-storming meetings Apple’s employees go to. How else would they come up with all sorts of interesting ideas. We hear now that Apple wants to add voice and camera to multi-touch in an attempt to improve our gadgets experience. Voice could be use with the iPhone. You could copy paste everything you wanted with such a feature. Camera could be used in laptops and desktops. Such a camera could monitor your hands position and their action on a touch surface. Depending on how you move your hands certain actions will be performed. With such concept controls in mind let’s see what products will Apple design. via Gizmodo Related Posts Apple Has A Multitouch Patent Going On How do you like you touch experience so far?
