Hi, I have been using Limewire for years and years and kept up with all version upgrades. I just upgraded to v4.16.7 and changed nothing else. I am still using the same Mac Powerbook G4 and still running Tiger OS 10.4.11. There have been no hardware or other software upgrades other than Limewire v4.16.7. Also, no changes to modem/router since last Limewire upgrade. This is frustrating because everything was working fine. Has anyone else reported similar problems and obtained a solution? Thanks! ... It's not from Apple, but it gives a pretty good idea of what to expect from them, specially knowing that only one guy—Christian Moore—got this system running at full speed on a simple Intel-based MacBook. His Lux free open framework enables true multitouch interaction in Mac OS X. In fact, he says it can work under any platform and even a web browser, enabling complex user interfaces and object manipulation comparable to Jeff Han's magic walls or Microsoft Surface anywhere. We talked with Moore about how it works and what to expect from it.

Jesus Diaz: Tell me more about Lux. This is a framework that anybody can use, right? Under any platform?
Christian Moore: Well, yeah, is an opensource framework I've been working on for experimenting with user interfaces. It's more a general framework than targeting one main deployment platform. That video is actually all AS3 running in Flash 9 over Mac OS X, but you can integrate it with any development system and platform.
JD: Why Flash?
CM: Because it's fast to prototype in. However, the software is broken into several segments. One C++ application that tracks hands that talks to Flash... WPF... or another C++ app... and basically everything you can imagine. You can enable multitouch in any environment, like Cocoa.

On the Google Mac Team, one of our passions is keeping the Mac a first-class citizen for Google products and services. When I first saw Google App Engine , I was excited at the possibilities. It is still amazing to realize that Google will let external developers run web applications on Google infrastructure. However, integration with the client was a little basic. Simple tasks, like creating "hello world", required quite a bit of typing. We can do better, and Mac users want more. Talking with UI Designer John Skidgel and Software Engineer Brett Slatkin , I heard some great ideas on what could be done. So I jumped in with 20% time and wrote GoogleAppEngineLauncher.app, a project manager for Google App Engine client work. On the Mac, the Google App Engine SDK will be delivered with this launcher from now on. The Launcher isn't intended to replace a full-blown IDE or editor. However, basic tasks are now trivial. To create "hello world", you now just type a name and click twice. And deployment of a finished application to Google is a single click away.
