When I play a video on my macbook I get a much better picture than playing it on the Mini, I dont understand. I use a samsung le32r88bd with my Mini and when i play xvid movie the picture looks different. Could it be the size of screen making the difference. Its a bit jittery at times too. Both macs are 2ghz intel core 2 duos, I dont see why the macbook is giving better performance that a desktop basically. ...

Well, since it's been around a year since the last Mac Mini update, do you think apple will lower the price of the Mac Mini? I think that they will lower it to around $500. I'm in the market for a new Mac, and I would love to get the Mac Mini, only if it was a tad cheaper. So, what do you think? I have setup a poll option, so select the option that you think will happen. Cheerss ...

with the news that Apple may allow for streaming iTunes to an iPhone anywhere from your home, i can anticipate more demand for the Mac Mini. I was looking into getting one as a music server to share my home library thru my MacBook remotely thru Hamachi. Now if I can do the same to a portable device, i am SOLD. I hope this is encouraging news that the Mini is here to stay! ...

Hello, I wrote a thread a few days about how I was getting a basically free G4 Mac Mini from a co-worker who just got an Intel Mac Mini and did not need his G4 anymore. Well I got the G4 Mac Mini yesterday and once I got home the first thing I did was take the case off, clean the inside of the Mac Mini out . . . which surprisingly was not much considering I was messing with a 3 year old computer. Also while the computer was open, I took a stick of DDR ram from my G5 and installed it into my Mac Mini. The Mini now had 1GB of ram, not the stock 256mb that the computer came with. I was not even going to try running the computer with it. After I installed the new ram and got the case back on the Mac Mini, I then connected it up to my setup on my desk which consist of an old Apple Pro Keyboard and Mouse from a G4 I owned, a 20" Dell wide-screen monitor, my G4 Cube USB Speakers, and a Linksys WRT54g with DD-WRT acting as a wireless bridge since the Mac Mini did not come with an Airport card. I then completely wiped the hard drive and started the installation process of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. I was surprised at the length of time it took for Leopard to install on the little Mac Mini which was roughly about an hour. This surprised me, but after thinking about it for a little while I had some hardware factors against me. First I was using an Apple Combo Drive which could only read DVDs "up to" 8x and the hard drive that is in the Mac Mini is a ...

Today marks 11 full months since the last update of the Mac Mini (August 7th, 2007). It's the only Mac computer sold without wireless N. And it's the only one not running Penryn. I'm surprised it hasn't at least been given that bump. Any thoughts? ...

Dell is diving into the Mini desktop computing market with their Studio Hybrid . As the "Hybrid" name implies, Dell is promoting the Studio Hybrid as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional PC towers, which have a significantly higher power draw (300 watts) compared to Hybrids (65 watts). They're naturally targeting the Studio Hybrid directly at the Mac Mini, claiming that it "leaves the Mac Mini behind" due to its optional Blu-ray drive for HD video, HDMI video out, an 8-in-1 card reader and an optional TV tuner. The system also has a bunch of stylish customizable options that include different color shells as well as a bamboo finish option that actually looks pretty nice. To top it all off, they're offering the Studio Hybrid at a lower price than the Mac Mini with starting prices at $499 for a base model with a 1.73GHz Pentium dual-core processor, 1GB of memory, and a 160GB hard disk. The catch? It comes with Vista. Ugh. All in all, the Studio Hybrid could give the aging Mac Mini a run for its money. I'm thinking it's time Apple either updates the Mini or discontinues it completely. After all, their portable line is doing so well and is so competitively priced that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to buy a Mac Mini when you can get the way handier MacBook with the same specs for just $300 more—pretty much the price of a new monitor you'd need for the Mini anyway. Am I the only one who thinks the Mac Mini is kind of point ...

Dell tonight leapt into the Mini desktop business with the Studio Hybrid [link ready soon]. The system is described as the company's "first step" in eco-friendly PCs and uses notebook components to dramatically reduce both its size and power draw; where a tower uses a 300-watt supply, the Hybrid uses well under 65 watts and is 80 percent smaller t... ...

Hi UUUnicorn wrote: Graphic design programs, like Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, PhotoShop, and Quark XPress. Thank you. More than enough. Graphic design programs are mostly CPU, RAM, and hard drive dependent. The Mini is more than capable in these areas. This may or may not change with the next major release of such programs but current and previous versions rely little on the graphics processor. UUUnicorn wrote: Please, what's an FW drive? Thank you. FW drive is short for FireWire drive. ...

I have had nothing but problems with my Mini. The major problem is that it has a kernel panic after sitting a few hours. I'll come back to it and it will have that screen with a bunch of different languages forcing a hard reboot since everything is frozen. I have it set so it won't go to sleep but it still does this. Another problem, not sure if it is related is that on some boot ups the upper toolbar doesn't show any icons/time except for the magnifying glass. The mouse works but I won't be able to launch any applications. Another problem is that it freezes up while playing DVD's. I've been on with tech support and they had me do all the standard things, clear the cache and repair permissions. While these work for the subsequent boot up, the problems show themselves the next day. Any ideas would be great. Mike ...
