According to The Telegraph newspaper here in the UK, British Members of Parliament are kicking up a right old stink about YouTube. Specifically regarding what it does, or more to the point what it does not do, to prevent sexually explicit and violent video clips from being posted. The House of Commons "Culture and Media Committee" says that it is completely unimpressed with the systems that YouTube has in place to filter out sexual and violent content. Surely, the point is that there is no active filtering to prevent the publication of such material. Instead, YouTube relies upon user... ... Source: www.jsonline.com --- 17 days ago

The text of the report from the Council of Great City Schools on suspensions and otehr discipline issues in MPs is now posted on our Web Site, minus some appendix material. You can read the 17-page report here or the story in today's newspaper here . And here are two thought-provoking e-mails that were sent in response to the story: First from Caryl Davis, an MPs teacher: "The Milwaukee Public School motto is: 'High Expectations Start Here.' Sadly, the public relations team who designed this motto is mistaken. High expectations begin at home. When learners do not have a strong foundation of personal responsibility, lack value for education, and impede teaching and learning processes; we have a problem. And the problem has manifested itself in a disproportionate number of suspensions in MPs. In my view and in accordance with the Council on Great Schools, there is no urgency about improving learner school and classroom behavior. "I must begin with my initial positive experience with the district. I arrived to MPs from the corporate world 12 years ago. It was a career move that was motivated by my desire to help urban youth acquire the tools that were needed for an expanding global economy. My first teaching gig was at Roosevelt Middle School of the Arts, a local arts-based middle school where academics were equally vital. Learners wanted to be there as evidenced by their immersion in theatre, dance, visual art, computer art, ... Source: www.moreover.com --- 14 days ago

Clip Source: mypetjawa.mu.nu Via Jewish Journal: Haaretz Weekend Magazine has a fantastic profile coming up on Masab Yousef, whose father is the top Hamas leader in the West Bank. The younger Yousef, who once assisted his father politically, has moved to California and converted to Christianity. If that didn’t stop you dead in your tracks, this will: “Send regards to Israel, I miss it. I respect Israel and admire it as a country. “You Jews should be aware: You will never, but never have peace with Hamas. Islam, as the ideology that guides them, will not allow them to achieve a peace agreement with the Jews. They believe that tradition says that the Prophet Mohammed fought against the Jews and that therefore they must continue to fight them to the death.”... ...An entire society sanctifies death and the suicide terrorists.
