Forum: MODELING Posted By: BICA Post Time: 07-13-2008 at 08:09 PM Text: Sorry to bother with this question....my objective is to create symmetry by using the duplicate special command, but it's not working 100% for me. I am trying to begin the torso of a human, with a box MODELING with symmetry style. I made a polycube, and cut 1/2 of the faces on the left side off. then I highlight whats left, and then go Duplicate special, options. From there I make sure that it's -1 scale(X), instance, and it's grouped under parent, and there are no boxes checked or anything like that. When I do so, the object does work in respect to moving the vertex on one side and the other side does it too, but in terms of the boxes sticking together, that's another story. So for example, if I take the bottom vertexes of the box and scale them together, both boxes do each own symmetry(leaving space in the bottom middle half of the square), instead of having them stick together as one. Also, when I choose a side and move it, the other side is not attached to it, or moves with it, as if to be 1 box, with the symmetry attachment to it. <:/ I would really apreciate if someone can help me with this, and if not, what would be another way to try to create symmetry on the object, so when I work on a human, it will do so properly. Thank you..... ... Source: www.tutorialized.com --- 11 days ago

Forum: MODELING Posted By: malpi Post Time: 07-10-2008 at 05:33 PM Text: Hi i'm a native spanish speaker, i hope you'll understand my English. I'm MODELING a car in Maya with the help of a video tutorial (Digital Tutors). I started with nurbs and continued with polygons and subdivisions. I have a lot to do yet, it's only beginnig. I've sent attached in this post two basic renders of my work. It seems to me that perhaps the roof of the car it's a little low ( the roof is still in polygons while the rest is in subdivisions ). Constructive opinions ?. But i have a doubt, in the video tutorial, after the teacher model in nurbs to make a general design, and convert to Polygons to make detail, he use NORMALS to move vertices, so as to respect the aerodynamic MODELING intention. He works with a Lambert material. When i start moving, just a little, some vertex with NORMALS, i see that NORMALS fail, because if i use a blinn material and make a basic render i can see small dents in the surface. If i take some time i can solve the dents problems. The thing is that the teacher don't do a basic Render, and just go on MODELING without testing with a basic render. It seems to me that if i do that i'll have dents problems in the surface, so i prefer to check it constantly with a basic render (with blinn material). This makes the MODELING process slower. My question is : Am i working with the correct technique or i don't need to constanly check with r ... Source: forums.cgsociety.org --- 8 days ago
Forum: MODELING Posted By: samsilla Post Time: 07-16-2008 at 04:35 PM Text: Hi everyone, I started MODELING the foot-leg of Joan of Arc (based on the tutorial over at 3dtotal) in 3ds max, and I had a couple of questions about MODELING in general. This is my 2nd time polymodeling a character.. my last character was the soldier in the tutorial that came with 3ds max 9. First of all, the MODELING took me about 2 hours to perfect.. and I'm talking about just one foot and the lower leg. The majority of that time involved constantly referring to the tutorial's pictures and adjusting my character's vertices, edges, etc according to the author's pictures. Am I doing something wrong here by spending so much time on just the foot/leg? Also, how does the author know where the place the vertices in a foot? He was simply MODELING off two flat images (front, side). How does he know where the vertices project, where the edges slant, etc? If someone were to pitch me two reference images, I would be able to roughly box out the figure, but I'd be completely clueless how to adjust the vertices on my own. Is it artistic intuition? Does it come from some secret knowledge that only the elite artists are allowed to know? Or does it come just from constant practice and dedicated study of the human anatomy? Thanks, Sam Silla ...

The magazine Vogue is producing an online-only reality series that follows "three models as they navigate casting calls, catwalks and airports for fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris," The Wall Street Journal reports . A total of 12 eight-minute episodes of Model.Live will air on vogue.tv , and will also appear elsewhere online, such as Hulu . They will be product placement and sponsorship-heavy, as Express "paid in the 'low seven figures' to be the show's lead sponsor," and while "the European and American offices of IMG Models will be furnished with closets of Express clothes, ... the models won't be required to wear them, executives say." The WSJ says that at a cost of $3 million, or $31,000 a minute, this is "among the biggest-budget Web-TV projects to date. By contrast, marketers spent an average of $4,500 for an online video in 2007, according to Forrester Research." Having cameras follow the models in their real lives may result in footage that , and IMG's Russel Quy said flatly, "Obviously we are going to censor stuff. We don't want to embarrass anybody." But IMG's David Cunningham, who will appear on the show, said of controversial issues, "I think we should meet them head-on. We want this to be a real show." The team developed a model to evaluate how tillage practices can affect the formation and evolution of ephemeral gullies and subsequent soil erosion rates. Their findings suggest that, on average, tillage in areas prone to ephemeral gully erosion can produce significantly higher soil erosion rates compared to those same regions under no-till management practices. Simulated cumulative ephemeral gully soil erosion rates for the tilled fields were anywhere from 240 percent to 460 percent ... ... Source: www.elecdesign.com --- 9 days ago
