Although offense was hard to find in yesterday’s 3-0 loss to Kent State, Ohio had no such issues in an impressive 3-1 victory over MISSOURI State this afternoon at Pruitt Field. And the goals came from an unlikely source. Katelyn Shelley scored from the endline just two minutes into the game and picked up another score later in the half off a deflection from Marcy Dull’s shot on goal. Rachelle Coetzee, who outshot the entire Bears roster with eight shots to the opposing team’s seven, added the other goal for Ohio in between. She pounded a pass from Nikki Gnozzio in a penalty corner situation past MISSOURI State goalkeeper Jessica Schuster. After attempting just five shots in the loss to the Golden Flashes, the offense came out with a fury this afternoon. Ohio attempted 31 shots, a season high, and added other top numbers in shots on goal and penalty corners. Instead of offering any words of inspiration before the game, coach Neil Macmilan said he trusted his players to work out their emotions from the Kent State loss. “I really let the kids take care of it,” he said. “They made the difference on the field today.” Ohio improved to 6-7 overall and 4-2 in the Mid-American Conference with the win. ...
