-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Hard to talk about this without spoiling it. I'll try to keep things vague. Overall, thumbs up. What gameplay there is ranges from "eh, decent" to "completely awesome", the new controls are a godsend, the presentation is off the charts, and up until the ending, the story is great. What you've heard about the cutscenes is mostly true. While there are no single standalone scenes that take over 90 minutes, there are some groups of cutscenes that get pretty long. Combining the End of Act 3, Mission Briefing, and Beginning of Act 4, you get over an hour of non-stop non-interactive movietime. For the record, I liked the cutscenes - the writing is better than previous entries, the graphics are fucking insane, the music's good, and up until it all collapses at the end, the story was entertaining. So even when the cutscenes were absurdly long, I still enjoyed watching them. The end, though... No spoilers, but as a fan of the series, I thought the ending was pretty awful. Too many bad decisions to name here, but the biggest problems were the overexplaining and overreliance on a certain excuse to justify 99% of the story, a total lack of any consequences, and one of the best characters in the series getting treated as a footnote. I was really loving it up until the end of Act 5, where it just spirals downward into garba ...

Kojima Productions has added two new free camouflage suits to the Extras section of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots ' main menu. These are the Laughing Camo and the Raging Camo which can be downloaded absolutely free of charge. So, how do these new camos work? The easiest way to see is to grab an enemy soldier using CQC, hold them for a few seconds, and let them go. You'll see that they'll either be chucking their guts laughing or swearing profusely afterwards depending on which one you have on. We're expecting Screaming and Crying camos soon. We still haven't checked if the added effects work on bosses, but we'll tell you when we get the chance. Those of you wondering if Konami 's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be jumping on the same cross-platform bandwagon as Final Fantasy 13 , have no fear - the answer is a solid and resounding "no". Jack Tretton , CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America ( SCEA ), mentioned that it would be "impossible" for other consoles to handle MGS4 's technical demands. Tretton further explained that the PlayStation 3's Blu-ray features contributed to a large part of what sets the console apart from others. Speaking to the assembled press at the platform holder's conference at the E3 event, he was quoted having said this: PS3 offers an experience for both gamers and developers no other console can match. Metal Gear Solid is not only exclusive on PS3 it s only possible on PS3, thanks in part to Blu-ray. He also attributed the success of the Blu-ray format with the PS3 and mentioned that Blu-ray is now "poised to return the favor". However, this statement doesn't necessarily squash the previous rumors that the Metal Gear Solid series may still get an appearance on the Xbox Live Arcade service. We'll be sure keep our eyes open for new updates as we get them. Buy: [ Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots ] ...

As the title not-so-subtly implies, I've been playing a lot of MGS4 over the past few weeks. Practically nonstop, as a matter of fact. I've already beaten the game twice and am almost done with my third run, so I've definitely been keeping myself entertained. Before I continue, I suppose I should note that there will be MGS4 spoilers in this blog . If you haven't beaten the game or just don't want to be spoiled, then you're better off not reading the next few paragraphs. I'll let you know when I'm done spoiling MGS4. Forewarned is forearmed. Now, back to business. My first playthrough was just a standard run, for the sake of the gameplay experience and seeing how the story would resolve itself. I got the stealth camo on the second run, which was tricky, but well worth the effort. Now I'm going through the game a third time to get the Assassin's emblem, which is a much less excruciating task with the help of the stealth camo. I was originally going to try to get that emblem on my second run, but changed my mind early on and decided to shoot for no alerts instead. It turned out to be the right decision. I don't think I'll shoot for any of the ridiculously hard emblems, such as the Big Boss emblem, but I think that once I've completed a few runs and gained some useful tools, I'll try playing The Boss Extreme mode with all those toys at my disposal. That would make it fun, rather than a pain, even if I don't get any rewards at the end. As ...

Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3 , Action We were starting to think that the new camo patterns available for download via Metal Gear Solid 4 's "Extras" screen were going to be fairly mundane. Silly us! This is Hideo Kojima we're talking about here, and behind his stoic stare the guy has quite the sense of humor. Case in point: the two new OctoCamo patterns available today. Called "Laughing Camo" and "Raging Camo," they cover Snake in text when equipped (which doesn't exactly sound like the best thing for, you know, stealth gameplay ). These patterns aren't about hiding from enemies, though ... their effects are actually seen when you get near them. They cause PMC soldiers and other foes to break out into laughter and howling on sight, rendering them temporaily stunned. (Making the new camo settings something you'll want to use only on your second, third, fourth, or fith play-through, lest you ruin a "pure" first-time experience.) Taking on The Patriots and getting kooky with Kojima? That's what we call a fun way to spend the Fourth. So, like many others, I bought Metal Gear Solid 4 after several years of steep anticipation. It wasn’t the game I bought a PS3 for, but it was really the only game I was looking forward to on the system before fall. I’ve been with the series since the PS MGS , and have loved each installment since. I know there are a million articles/reviews/blogs out there about the game, so I will try to keep my thoughts relatively brief (and spoiler free for the first half). As far as surface issues go, the game is beautiful in almost every way. The series has always been great at these things, though: voice and motion acting, action sequences, dialogue, sound, music, etc. So I guess I wasn’t so surprised with those. Yes, the plot was a little overly complicated, but it could have been handled much worse. If you’ve followed the series and have a general grasp of how things have gone down to this point, it’s surprisingly easy to follow. I can imagine how those who have skipped a game or two (or, like my boss, never even played a MGS game) could get lost pretty quickly, though. They try to use as many visual aids, charts, and flashbacks as they can to make it easier, but as often (and drastically) as it jumps around, I can’t blame people for being confused by it all. I did like how they tied most things up (even several things no one expected to be tied up), but some of it did seem unnecessary. Certain characters probably could have remained in the s ...

Im sorry, but this game sucks. Ive played all of the other MGS and I just dont have the patience to play it. Im not saying it was MADE poorly, Im just saying that its not the game for me. Ive tried to play it, twice, and just cant get into it and Ive followed the series. At this point, I really dont care what happened to whom, when and why. That started around the Snake Eater time and at this point, Im done. Great graphics, ****ty gameplay IMO. Ive read that after the first four acts, its alot of cutscenes (like I assumed it would be) and less playability. No thanks, Ill trade it in for NCAA Bash away MGS nuthuggers! ...
