Some new and poorly translated information has surfaced regarding MGS 4. There is note to the Voice of God: Hideo Kojima and reports that December 12th which is 6 months after the release of MGS 4, something will happen to continue to the actual final of the game. The weekly update for PlayStation Network Store in Europe is looking pretty good. Filed under: PC , Microsoft Xbox 360 , Business News from the MGS we haven't heard from in a while now, with Microsoft Game Studios Europe explaining why simultaneous releases on the Xbox 360 and PC don't always make business sense. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz , Peter Zetterberg, business development manager for MGS Europe, described such releases as the equivalent of placing a bullet in the foot. "On a global scale the Windows Vista business is as important as our Xbox 360 business. But in Germany for example, we want more gamers to buy our Xbox 360," Zetterberg said. "If we launch a game that is on 360 and PC simultaneously, we basically shoot ourselves in the foot by allowing the German market to choose to play the PC version - because they are more likely to buy that than spend their money on the Xbox 360." Though the absence of immediate consumer choice is always regrettable, the sharing of exclusives between two platforms will inevitably put the least popular one at a disadvantage. After all, why would you purchase an Xbox 360 if the game you want would work just fine, if not better, on your Vista PC? Microsoft isn't just leaving the PC with leftovers, though, as Zetterberg adds that the publisher is always looking to tweak its business model to allow for a "multitude" of independent titles "under an MGS flag." According to figures by Enterbrain , the Nintendo Wii's lead over the Sony PlayStation 3 has been closing since May, from a 6:1 margin to a much more reasonable 1.7:1 margin. For the five week period that ended June 29th, Nintendo sold 235,990 Wii units while Sony moved 139,494 PS3 units. The Wii has held a dominant lead for seven consecutive months and this recent gap closing can and should be attributed to the blockbuster smash hit Metal Gear Solid 4 . However, sales for the game have slowed down and it placed a lowly 8th last week, behind much older games such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Wii Fit . My prediction is that the Wii will be back up to a 4:1 margin by the end of July, especially as the PS3 has no blockbusters hitting the market. Also noted in the figures is how the Xbox 360 continues to fade into oblivion in the region. Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter was surprisingly candid at Anime Expo's centerpiece guest-of-honor panel, where he admitted to being frustrated at times with Metal Gear Solid series director Hideo Kojima's over-the-top scriptwriting and direction. He specifically called out the suicide scene highlighted in Metal Gear Solid 4 trailers, saying that Snake, a man who's killed thousands, shouldn't flinch at pulling the trigger on himself. "I didn't agree with that at all, and I begged them to change it, but I think it's still in the final game," he said. "I didn't buy it at all. I think it's weak for Snake to be killing other people and then not be able to kill himself when it's time. If he knows it's time, then it's time." ...
The Metal Gear Solid storyline (despite its arguable brilliance) has got to be one of the most convoluted, complex and eccentric experience we've ever had - our brain just hurts to comprehend sometimes. David Hayter, American voice actor of Solid Snake, apparently shares our thoughts as he critiqued Kojima's masterpiece during the guest-of-honor panel at the Anime Expo. 'It was just humiliating,' Hayter said when he described the first MGS's alternate ending where Otacon and Snake were about to ride-off in a snowmobile. 'It's a delicate thing to discuss love blooming on the battlefield with Otacon,' said Hayter about the Otacon/Snake moment. 'It felt like it was written to be romantic,' said Hayter. But despite of the criticism, Hayter gives Kojima a lot of credit for influencing his scriptwriting. 'Kojima and I have different styles...but I've certainly learned things from him, especially about ambiguity and telling a story without giving all the answer,' said Hayter. He also mentions a certain keyplot from MGS4 but since the game's only a month old, we'll let you decide if you want to read about it or not for those of you who haven't finished the game yet (WHY?!).
