Run To The Beat, London's musical half-Marathon, takes place this Sunday. But for me, you can't beat the Great North Run . 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields. I have run it before, and I am running it this year. I am feeling pretty nervous, but excited. The weather this weekend will probably be better for the runners than the spectators in London , but Newcastle should get away with a brief weather window on Sunday morning. After our cold blast of northerly winds at the end of the week, Saturday will see the winds swinging around to the southwest bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain northeastwards across Britain and Ireland. Northwest Scotland shouldn't be too bad, with some brighter drier weather. It'll be relatively mild but still wet on Saturday night, but the remnants of this rain should clear away eastwards during Sunday morning. Expect a brief respite then, with some sunshine and light winds for Sunday morning across Scotland and northeast England, in particular, before the next batch of wind and rain sweeps in on Sunday afternoon and evening. There may be problems with the amounts of rain across Wales and Southwest England with a risk of local flooding. Good luck if you're running! ...
